“That’s another thing to worry about,” I say. “Michael. Declining my resignation means I may have to run into him again while I’m still interning for you.”

“I already told you everything has been handled. Michael and Kristen won’t bother you anymore.”

“How can you be so sure?” I ask. He’s far too certain for someone who’s only met Michael once. I have four years on him; Michael isn’t one to quit until he’s on top.

“Because he and I got together over drinks and talked things out.”

I burst into a laughing fit. If I know anything about either Carter and Michael, it’s thatneitherof them would cave in and talk things out. They’re both far too prideful for that.

“You’re only lying to make me feel better. I know damn well neither of you would do that.”

He sets his hand on my waist. “I’m really not lying. I took care of it.”

I furrow my brows. “How then?”

With a serious roll of his eyes, Carter lets out a frustrated exhale. “Why is it so hard to believe that two grown men would get together and come to an understanding?”

“It isn’t,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest. “But neither of you likes to act like grown men.”

He narrows his eyes on me. “Fine. I bought Studio 42 and fired Michael and Kristen. I also made sure that everyone in Hollywood knows they’re trash.”

“I asked for the truth,” I say, more annoyed at him than when he told me that little white lie. This is full-blown lying. “Is it really that difficult to be honest with me?”

Carter laughs, and suddenly, I somehow feel like a fool. “Mia, I’m telling the truth. Do you need to see the contract for yourself?”

I raise my brows. “YouboughtStudio 42?”

He nods.

“Just so you can fire Michael and Kristen?”

He mulls this over. “Mostly. They were so set on ruining your career. I thought they deserved a taste of their own medicine. But there were some projects I wanted to cash in on as well, so it was a win.”

My jaw drops. Admittedly, I’m impressed. “I can’t believe you did that.”

He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer. “I’m Carter Cogswell. I can do anything.”

“What if they can’t ever find jobs?” I ask. “What if they end up on the streets?”

Carter scoffs. “As if that’ll happen. Michael’s family is loaded. He doesn’t have to work ever again if he doesn’t want to. And Kristen will be able to get an assisting job in any industry. She isn’t helpless.”

I bite my lip, feeling so incredibly guilty for the part I played in Michael and Kristen losing their jobs, even though I do agree that they deserve it. Besides, Michael is not the kind of guy to just accept something like this. His reputation is of outmost importance for him, and now he’s lost it. And like Carter said, he’s got plenty of money to hit back.

I shake those thoughts away when Carter rests his head on my shoulder. “So, are we going to keep fighting?” he asks. “Because I think there’s much better use for this plane.”

“It would be a shame to waste this flight arguing,” I admit, caressing his forearm with my finger.

“Glad we’re in agreement,” he says, bringing his lips to mine. “Don’t ever stay away for this long again. I’ve been craving you for far too long.”

He slides his hand up my skirt, rubbing the outside of my panties in slow and gentle circles. My eyes roll to the back of my head. His touch feels so good.

“You’re already so wet,” he whispers and kisses my neck.

I let out a moan, then bite my lip to keep myself quiet.

“Nobody is going to bother us. You can make as much noise as you need.”

He moves the fabric of my panties out of the way, then slides a single finger inside of me.
