“They better,” she tells me, a flirty smile on her beautiful pink lips.

“I’ve never been a jealous man before. My philosophy has always been that if a partner wants to cheat, good riddance to them. I could walk away. With you, though, I’d fight to the death to keep what we have. You’re not just anyone, you’re the love of my life.”

Her eyes soften as she leans in and kisses me. When she pulls back we’re both breathless and hot. I reluctantly pull back as the music below continues to weave its enchanting melodies. I rise from my seat and hold out a hand. Jasmine’s eyes bright with pleasure. Without another word she takes my fingers as she rises.

The world fades away as I pull her into my arms and we begin to sway to the rhythm of the music. With each step we take, it solidifies that we’ll be doing this for a lifetime. We fit perfectly together, and our bodies press together in perfect synch.

It doesn’t matter that Jasmine’s forgotten some of our past. What matters is we’ll be doing this for the rest of time. What matters is right here and right now. I don’t ever want to let this woman go. The music fully envelopes us, guiding our movements on the large balcony. We dance, twirling and spinning, laughing and sighing, joy filling our hearts. With every spin Jasmine’s laughter fills the night sky, a symphony of joy that fills me with pride and happiness.

Time stands still as we move together, our bodies made for each other. As the music slows, I pull her to me, my arms drawing her closer with every beat of my heart. The rest of the world fades to nothing, leaving only the two of us lost in our embrace, the music holding us in a bubble.

“Let’s never stop dancing,” Jasmine says.

“Never,” I agree. She rests her head against my chest as we dance beneath the stars, our bodies moving as one, immersed in pure ecstasy.

I’m not sure how much time has passed, but enough for the waiter to discreetly leave. I pull Jasmine’s face back and give her a wicked look that has her smiling. That’s her only warning before I lift her, throwing her over my shoulder.

I carry her inside as she giggles, smacking her backside as I march us toward the bedroom. Just like every new adventure we take together, our time is only just beginning. We’re going to do some more dancing... only this time we will be naked.

ChapterThirteen

Jasmine

My heart beats steadily as I walk along the beach, enjoying the peacefulness of the ocean lapping against the shore. What a week I’ve had reconnecting with Hunter. I desperately want to remember every moment we’ve shared together, but I’m starting to truly enjoy this new romantic ride we’re on.

How many people get to say they fall in love twice with the same person? I have a feeling the number’s low, and I love every second of this time around. I was scared coming out of my coma, but now I wake up eager to start the day, eager to see what Hunter has in store for us. It’s like we’re in a bubble where the rest of the world simply doesn’t exist.

I’m lost in my thoughts when someone bumps into me. I’m about to apologize — I’m not sure why when it clearly isn’t my fault — when I realize this isn’t an accidental crash. A man is reaching for my purse, a frantic look in his gaze.

I take a step back as instinct kicks in and my martial arts training takes over. The man lunges for my purse again and I swiftly send out a kick, making him stumble backward. His eyes narrow as he looks at me before reaching into his pocket for a knife. I smile, sending a flash of fear into his eyes. He’s obviously not used to a small female like me fighting back.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” I ask with a mocking tone.

“Give me the purse, bitch, or I will slash you,” he says as he takes a menacing step toward me.

My smile grows. “Why don’t you try to take it?” I taunt. I shouldn’t do it, but I can’t help myself. I haven’t had any real action in a while. I’ve played with Ember, Smoke, and Hunter, but I haven’t worked in a while. I miss the adrenaline rush. Now, a man holding a knife toward me would give Gramps heart palpitations, but he still sees me as his sweet little granddaughter. I’m no damsel in distress; I’m a warrior!

The man lunges toward me and I swipe down hard on his knife hand, sending the knife scattering somewhere in the sand. I grab the top of his elbow with one hand, as I grip his shirt with the opposite hand. Taking a step forward, I turn my body all in one motion then throw the man over the top of me, laying him flat on the ground. I step back as the air whooshes out of him.

He shakes his head and looks at me, fury blazing in his eyes. He slowly climbs back to his feet and, again, I smile at him. I shouldn’t taunt a crazy person, but I can’t help myself. I wiggle my finger at him.

“Do you want some more, little boy?” I ask.

“You’re going to die,” he thunders. He lunges back at me. What is up with these idiots thinking they can use force? I throw him to the ground once more. He jumps right back up.

“I’m going to quit being so nice soon,” I warn him.

“I’m going to carve you up and eat you for dinner,” he thunders.

I frown at him. “That’s a disturbing thought. I think you need some mental help,” I tell him. He clearly doesn’t appreciate my advice as he charges again.

This time I go on the offensive and kick him several times. The final kick to the head sends him to the ground most likely seeing little birds flying around him. I stand over him and smile.

“Are we finished now?” I’m not even breathing hard. He could’ve been a bit more of a challenge.

The shock on the perpetrator’s face is evident as he lies on the ground with my foot on his chest. I don’t even need to hold him down. He’s been beaten and he knows it. He’s no longer calling me names.

It doesn’t take long for the sound of approaching sirens to fill the air. Someone seeing the fight called the police, and they’re moving fast, just as they always do in this area. Truly, there isn’t much crime here, the reason Gramps picked this place, but when there is, it’s squashed quickly.
