“Life’s too short and uncertain to live in doubt or fear. Even on my worst days, I tell myself it will be better in twenty-four hours. I just have to get through the moment then it will be better. We fall so hard because we focus on the bad instead of looking for the good.”

“That’s so much easier to believe when we’re happy and everything’s going as planned. When life throws us lemons, everything tastes sour. When we’re sitting in a bowl of chocolate, it’s all sweet. You’ve taught me to look for the good, and though I might fail a time or two, this is the way I want to live for the rest of our lives.”

I really like the thought of it beingourlives. I don’t want to be ameanymore. I always want to be an us. I’m not sure how I thought life alone was better. Everything I do with this woman is amazing.

“My amnesia has robbed me of amazing moments in my life, but it won’t dim what I love the most. I’m sure I’m in love with you. I just need to remember why. You’re making it very easy for me to do this,” she says as she leans up and kisses me again.

“I’m up for the challenge,” I assure her. “I don’t want you to push yourself. I want you to fall in love with me all over again. This way I know it’s not a fluke. I know that what we have is unbreakable. I want you to know this. I want us to have forever, not just moments.”

“Well, Mr. Hunter Sparks, we’re well on our way,” she assures me. “I appreciate and respect you. I love life and love people, but it’s harder to earn my respect. You’ve done that.”

I squeeze her a little tighter, our connection tightening more with every passing second. “I think starting all over again is amazing. Maybe we should do it each new year,” I suggest, making her laugh.

“I’ll forgo any further comas,” she says with a chuckle that fills my soul with happiness.

“I agree. No more comas. I like discovering each other all over again, though. I’m learning a lot about myself as we walk through this journey once more. It’s fun and we always love adventures.”

Jasmine’s eyes sparkle with pure joy as she nods. “Oh yes, we love adventures and excitement. That I remember clearly,” she agrees.

I lead her to the table and hold out the chair for her. As soon as we’re comfortable our waiter slips out and serves our first course of bread and salad bursting with vibrant colors and flavors. Our first bites make the cost of this date well worth it. I love surprising Jazz.

We chat as we savor each bite on our plate, the salad plates replaced with fresh lobster bites. Jasmine dips her bread in the cheesy, buttery mixture the lobster is resting in, then leans back and groans.

“If you keep making sounds like that, this dinner will end because I’ll haul you over my shoulder and cart you off to the bedroom,” I warn.

She laughs in pleasure. “Oh, I want that, but this is good food, so you’re going to have to wait.” My groin tightens in anticipation. It would be easy to dismiss the meal and make love to my woman, but we need to have more than sex. We need to have a real relationship. Sex is important, but to last forever we need the emotional connection.

Our next course of savory beef and veggies is placed before us and, on cue, a band on the beach begins playing. The distant sound of laughter drifts up to us, all of it adding up to a perfect atmosphere. Jasmine’s condo’s in an ideal location. We look out at the beach below, the concert captivating our attention.

“Did you hire a band?” she asks with a laugh.

“I wish I had that much power,” I tell her. “That’s something your family could arrange. Sadly, not me. But I’m not unhappy about it,” I add.

She laughs. “I could see my grandfather setting something like this up, but since I’ve lived in this condo, there have been a multitude of concerts. I think it’s a happy coincidence.”

“A very happy one. I love salsa music. It makes me want to pull you in tight.”

“Don’t forget about the shoulder carrying,” she says with laughter. I’m going to have to deal with this permanent erection through our entire dinner. It’s well worth it. I’ve discovered with Jasmine, it doesn’t take much to turn me on. I don’t think my desire will ever dim. When you find the one you’re meant to be with, everything they do brings you pleasure.

We continue eating as music fills the air, intertwining with the sounds of waves lapping the shore. We both sway in our seats, my heart fuller than it’s ever been before. Maybe the entire world is out there celebrating my love for this beautiful woman.

As our final dinner plates are removed and our dessert of buttery soft chocolate cake and ice cream is set before us, a burst of color illuminates the sky. Fireworks erupt, painting vibrant colors and patterns against the dark canvas above.

“Did you do this?” Jasmine gasps, making me laugh as I shake my head.

“No, but I did tell your best friend Ember about our date. Now I’m wondering if someone is helping me out. If they are, I’m certainly not complaining.” I scoot next to Jasmine, bringing my dessert with me because it’s too good not to eat. We sit side by side in awe at the dazzling display that seems just for us. The people below on the beach are gasping and making all sorts of pleasurable sounds. Each explosion mirrors the fireworks in my heart, a testament to how powerfully I feel about this woman.

“Hunter, this is the best date of my life,” Jasmine says as she pushes her empty plate away and snuggles into my side. It’s amusing how much food this petite woman can eat. She works out hard and burns far more calories than she can consume, but still there’s only so much body mass for the food to wiggle its way into.

“It doesn’t matter what we do together, Jasmine, as long as we’re together,” I tell her.

“Fireworks are pretty cool, though,” she says with a chuckle.

“Yes, I have to admit, the fireworks are a great addition to our evening,” I say as I wrap her in my arms and the show continues. “I want every single day we have together to be the beginning of our journey. I never want to get so comfortable together that we forget to keep trying. I want to always fight to impress you.”

“Oh Hunter, being at my side impresses me. I might have forgotten our relationship, but I haven’t forgotten my jealousy as you dated other women, and my humongous crush on you. Being with you now feels like I’m getting everything I’ve ever wanted.”

A smile tugs at the corners of my lips as I raise her hand and gently press a kiss against her skin. “I’ve had my own moments of jealousy when it comes to you, but that’s in the past. I know who you are, know your character. When you belong to another there’s no one else. It’s the same with me. Since I fell for you other women have ceased to exist.”
