We arrive at Kokomo, one of the most exclusive private island resorts in the world. I chose this place because of the privacy, luxury, and especially the spa. I was able to get the Sunset Villa, a one-bedroom villa with its own private swimming pool. I want to swim naked beneath the stars with this man I love.

Our villa features a living area and kitchenette, so we don’t have to leave our little piece of paradise if we don’t want to. We’re still within walking distance of the resort’s main restaurants if we want. We can have as much alone time or be as social as we please. It’s completely up to us.

We settle into our villa, then sit together on our patio and look out at the ocean as the sun begins to set. I’m in heaven as I lie in his arms in a skimpy bikini.

“Tell me your favorite memory as a child,” I whisper. I don’t want to speak too loudly and break the peace of this moment. I may never want to leave this island. It’s paradise.

“I’m not sure how old I was, maybe about twelve when my family went camping. My sister and I embarked on a thrilling adventure while we were in what we believed was the vast wilderness in California,” he starts.

“You believed?” I ask.

“Well, we were at Yosemite National Park, so it’s technically a wilderness. We just weren’t alone in the wild foraging to survive,” he says with a chuckle.

“Oh, I’ve never camped there. We’re going to have to go.”

He laughs. “Are you going to stay in a tent with me?” He seems impressed; I hate to burst his bubble.

“Oh, no, I mean we’ll glamp. Campers only for me. I want a locking door and shower close by.” He throws his head back and laughs.

“Well, my family arrived, and my sis and I set up our tent, both of us jumping for joy at being away from the city. My sister and I always were filled with curiosity and a thirst for adventure, so as soon as our sleeping quarters were set, we rushed off to explore.”

“Your parents let you leave on your own?”

“Sort of. We weren’t to go far and we had to carry walkie talkies. On the first day we took a hike along a trail that led to a waterfall. We thought it was the greatest thing we’d ever seen, meandering through towering trees, babbling brooks, and blooming wildflowers. We were in awe of all the beauty around us. It’s so amazing how different this country looks in the wilderness rather than the city.”

“I agree. I like the convenience of cities, but when I visit a place like this it makes me appreciate the solitude so much.”

“We thought we were trekking deep into the forest, and were making up stories of bears and what we’d do if one approached. I assured my sister I’d save her from any predator.”

“Ah, you’ve always been the hero,” I say.

“I’ve always thought I was. We stumbled upon an old weathered map that was half buried beneath a pile of leaves. You’d think we’d just discovered the greatest treasure ever. It was a mystery that fueled our adventurous spirits. I’ll never forget how my heart was racing. We followed the map, convinced it would take us to a buried treasure.”

“Did it?” I ask.

“The map guided us through narrow paths, steep hills, and across small streams.”

“I thought you weren’t supposed to go far.”

“Woman, I’m telling a story here,” he says with a laugh. I join him.

“Carry on,” I grandly state.

“We encountered various challenges on our epic journey, climbing over fallen tree trunks and maneuvering through dense bushes, but the two of us persevered, determined to find our treasure.”

“In the vast wilderness,” I say, smiling big as he dramatically tells his tale.

“After days of hiking...” I give him a raised brow. “It’s my story,” he defends.

“Okay, after days of hiking?”

“We finally reached the designated spot on the map. There, beneath a towering oak tree, was a hidden cave entrance. Our hearts were thundering with excitement as we cautiously entered the dark and mysterious cave.”

“Did you see a bear?” I want to know how much of this story is real, but I don’t want to break the magic of the moment.

“No, but we were greeted by a breathtaking sight — a glistening waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff. We found no gold but the real treasure was the sheer beauty and wonder of nature itself. The cave resonated with the sound of rushing water, a sound I still hear if I close my eyes.”

“Oh, that’s a perfect treasure.”
