“Shit,” he heard her mumble. “Do you think it was …”

“I was hoping not, but now I think so.”

“Declan, we have to find her.”

“Don’t you think I know that?” he growled over the phone. Declan was becoming more agitated. He felt helpless, and he didn’t handle that well … at all.

“Don’t snap at me! I’ll look through the palace and talk to the guards as well as whoever was on duty last night. See if anyone saw anything.”

He tried to breathe slowly to calm down. Now was not the time to lose his head, shift, and start a rampage. “That’s a good idea. Thank you. I already told one of them to search and let me know if they see her. More eyes and investigating will help.”

“In the meantime, call Mom and Dad. See if they know anything. I’ll be in touch if anything comes up.”

Click.

Declan didn’t know what good it would do to call his parents, but he was willing to try anything.

“Mom? Is Dad with you?” He kept the conversation brief and to the point without giving too much away.

They were as clueless and out of the loop as any of them.

He hung up, more frustrated than before. He felt like he was wasting time. Time that Taryn didn’t have.

There was one number he hadn’t tried. The one that would probably prove the best result at giving him the answers he needed.

Declan dialed Phillip’s number.

If he had actually been the stalker and, therefore, the one who had taken her, Declan would kill him. History and friendship be damned.

Declan tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for him to pick up. Voicemail. He tried again.

Nothing.

Declan shook violently as his imagination raced away at the unanswered calls that screamed proof to him.

Phillip never ignored his calls.

His fist squeezed his phone, cracking in his hand. He heard the soft crunch and thought better of it.

Declan dialed Phillip’s parents next. He had to give less away to them than he had to anyone else. Unfortunately, they had no idea where their son was. They hadn’t seen or heard from him since yesterday.

“Thank you,” Declan said through gritted teeth.

“We’ll let him know you’re looking for him,” they replied.

“Oh, please do.” Declan hung up. “I want that bastard to know I’m looking for him. I want that piece of shit to tuck his tail at the thought of me coming for him.”

Declan couldn’t control his anger any longer.

He fully crushed his phone and chucked it against a palace wall. He let out a deep, gut-wrenching scream of anger that echoed through the halls.

Suddenly, he was hit with an unexpected vision filled with emotions.

It was Taryn. He could tell. He could feel her through the bond they had created. The mating bond triggered his channel to her. He clutched his chest.

Taryn was weak and very, verypissed off. She was alive and unharmed.

He focused harder and caught a glimpse of her surroundings.
