Moon cocks an eyebrow. “I guess you don’t want any of the red velvet brownies I made.”

Ashlyn throws herself at Moon. “I love you, moon pie. You’re the bestest friend in the entire world.”

“What is Moon doing here?” Miller asks.

Great. The grumpy brewer has arrived at the party. “What’s wrong with Moon being here, Mr. Cranky Pants? She’s my friend.” I narrow my eyes at him. “You do know what a friend is, don’t you?”

“Moon is also the mayor.”

I fist my hands on my hips and glare at him. “And? What’s your point?”

“The mayor shouldn’t be involved with a protest.”

“This is Winter Falls.”

“Being quirky doesn’t mean the normal rules regarding conflicts of interest don’t apply.”

Who does Miller think he is? Being the most gorgeous man in Winter Falls doesn’t give him the right to be a jerk.

“Eden?” Lyric hollers my name and I push thoughts of Miller’s attractiveness out of my head. Now is not the time for my inner hussy to wake up from her slumber.

I march toward Lyric with Miller on my heels. I guess this sit-in won’t last for days after all.

Chapter 4

Honk two times if you need back up ~ Text from Elder to Miller

Miller

Ifollow Moon and Eden as they make their way toward Lyric. I try to keep my gaze focused upward but my eyes don’t listen and my gaze drops to watch Eden’s ass sway as she walks.

I bite back a groan. Her ass is perfection in a pair of yoga pants. She should abandon her hippie dresses and wear yoga pants every day so I can watch those round globes bounce up and down whenever I want.

Lyric motions us into the police station, which is inside the courthouse.

“Not you, Ashlyn.”

I glance behind me to discover Ashlyn following me. I didn’t even notice her. I was too busy staring at Eden’s backside.

I need to stop this. Eden is not my type. She hates me. She’s my nemesis. My cock disagrees. He twitches at the sight of Eden whirling around to confront Ashlyn.

“Why not?” Ashlyn bats her eyelashes.

“You’re not part of this,” Lyric says.

Her eyes widen. “Take it back, Lyric Alston! Take it back! I’m part of everything in this town.”

“Bane of my existence,” he mutters before removing his phone from his back pocket. “Do I need to phone Rowan?”

Ashlyn’s eyes narrow and she lifts her chin in defiance. “Go ahead. My husband is not the boss of me.”

Lyric shrugs before dialing. She rushes him. “Stop!”

He holds her away with a hand on her shoulder while she jumps up and down to reach his phone, which is now on speaker.

“Hello,” Rowan answers.

“Are you going to behave?” Lyric mutters to Ashlyn.
