Chapter Eight

Gia

I tossed, restless in Sloane’s guest bed. This felt all wrong. Me out here, and him inside. In his “king sized bed”. Alone.

Oh, the guest house was nice enough. Simple decor with clean lines. White linen bedding that felt like sleeping on a cloud. Snacks in the cabinet. Oreos, to be exact. And yes, I did eat an entire row unashamedly.

But after our do-over kiss out on the patio, I was too hot. Too bothered. The warmth of his hands had branded me, swirling behind my sternum. But also… lower down.

I twisted my legs beneath the blankets, aching for relief.

I couldn’t stop thinking about him. He probably slept naked, like I did. It was to be expected from a man who ate his midnight snacks in the buff.

Maybe he was as affected as I was by that searing kiss. Was he hard and needy and miserable right now?

He thinks my body is gorgeous. He hasn’t seen it naked yet. Somehow, I knew it wouldn’t matter. The way he looked at me… like I was his last breath of air before he left this world.

God, looks like that could make a girl weak to the bone.

My hand journeyed down my throat and between my breasts. The slight touch caused a moan to slip from my throat. I needed Sloane. But if I wandered into his place in search of relief, it would break my cardinal rule: never sleep with a man on the first date.

It was an important rule. One that I set in order to protect my ultra sensitive heart.

I needed to know who he really was and what he really thought of me before I gave him the whole glorious shebang. Because sex was never casual for me. Unfortunately.

Sometimes, I wished I could just scratch an itch like some people do. Uncomplicated orgasms seemed so… wonderful. But I knew myself well enough to know I didn’t work that way.

Sighing, I reached for my phone, breaking another rule instead.

I didn’t do social media after I was already in bed. That was a recipe for disaster, because that’s when all the haters liked to bleed all over my posts. Seeing some of those comments would keep me up all night in the beginning. Until I learned how to set boundaries.

Tonight though, I needed a distraction.

As soon as I lifted my phone, the bubble that alerted me to new notifications lit up. Thirty-seven new alerts. I frowned. That was a lot.

Sliding the app open, I started sifting through the notifications, but it became clear that most of them were from one individual.

A new account. One I set up earlier that night.

Sloane.

I couldn’t stop the smile that spread my cheeks. He’d been all over my posts and pictures.

I looked at the most recent interaction. A comment on a photo from the beach our first day on the island. I was wearing a black two piece and Kara had snapped a pic of me doing a goofy dance. I posted it because it wasn’t a perfect shot but my smile showed that I didn’t care. I was having fun.

I liked the picture well enough, but Sloane’s comment left me breathless.

This smile is fucking everything. I’ll be dreaming about it tonight.

Posted three minutes ago.

He was still awake.

I sat up straighter.

Awake, and clearly thinking of me.

I went right to direct messages and typed in his name.
