I giggle a little, huffing a curl away from my face. "Yeah, it was."

No sense in denying it.

"I've always known it would be like this between us. You wanted me to stay away and I did. I did it for you… to give you what you needed, but no more, Aurora."

I frown, his words startling me.

What is he talking about?

Iwanted him to stay away?

"Phillip, what do you mean you gave me what I needed? I never asked you to stay away. You're the one who never called or texted me once."

His eyebrows shoot up. "What? No! Rory, what are you talking about? I texted you every day and you texted back… you're the one who said we should end things before we even started."

He looks down and to the side, his Adam's Apple bobbing up and down.

I shake my head.

I let go of a shuddering breath and push against him until he lets me slide down the length of his big muscular body and my feet are finally on firm ground again.

I wobble a little and he steadies me.

"I never said that, Phillip."

He takes a small step back. "'Course you did. Well, you didn't say it technically. You wrote it."

"Iwrote it?"

He gives a brusque nod. "While we were texting. Why do you think I kept my distance? Nothing on earth could have kept me away from you, baby. Nothing aside from you asking me to leave you alone."

What the hell! When we were texting?

I blink back tears. "I don't get this. I gave you my number. You never called, Phillip. Never texted. What are you talking about?"

I programmed my number into his phone and he said he would text me when it was safe for me to go back to the apartment and pick my personal effects up since my cell was back in my room.

He just stares at me and even with the little knowledge I have of his expressions and moods I can see he's completely confused, shocked, and… hurt.

"What in the actual fuck, baby! I texted. You texted back."

"No. Something's off here," I tell him, trying to be heard over the too-loud music.

"Definitely." He grabs my hand and tugs a little. "We need to talk."

I nod. "Not here, Phillip."

He frowns, bending a little to hear me. "What?"

I try to speak, but I can't even hear my own voice right now.

Dammit, Belle's playlist just got to 'Once Upon a Dream' and someone must really be a Sleeping Beauty fan around here because they just cranked up the volume.

Phillip plucks me from the pavement, raising me up until we're at eye-level with each other and then he talks straight into the shell of my ear. "Let's get out of here, princess."

I nod and we leave the party behind.

"Your place?" Phillip asks as we walk to the elevator.
