Definitely the first time since we’ve been together.

Maybethat’swhat I’m really upset about.

He’s always wanted to travel united.

Why the sudden change?

Does he feel smothered?

Is he feeling trapped?

Has traveling with us gone from fun and exciting to dreadful?!

OhdearVelázquez…Please tell me it isn’t something he despises now.

“And we’ll talk about what that means for all of us. And what thatdoesn’tmean.” His firm expression indicates he can sense my splashed around thoughts. “And we can talk about whatever else needs to be talked about so that at the end of the day, at the end ofevery day, we’re still all on the same path. The samecanvas.”

The smile that manages to slip onto my face is soft.

Genuine.

He’s right.

Wedoneed to get everything out in the open, and once it’s all there, I know we’ll be back on the same side of the easel like we usually are.

I just hate this feeling in the pit of my stomach that getting us back there is going to be a lot easier said than actually done.

Chapter 3

Tucker

I love my son.

I really fucking do.

But thank Oshun – the Yoruba goddess of fertility – that I only have the one.

I’m honestly not sure I could manage two.

It’d be like having a paintbrush in each hand and trying to balance when to dip which. When to stroke with which.

How to stop one from dripping or drying out while waiting to be used.

And as tempting as the idea of painting with both at once is, realistically speaking that’s not exactly a long-term technique.

It’s more like a party trick.

Although, it would definitely be better than the one Lo is currently trying to pull off.

“Tadah!” he joyfully exclaims at the same time he stretches his arms wide, dewberry he was holding flying from his fingers in a very hard to miss manner. “The berry is…” Lo dramatically waves his hands in front his face. “Gone.”

Offering him a wide mouth grin and an exaggerated nod to imply I’m impressed occurs immediately.

Yup.

My son absolutely needs those lessons we signed him up for.

Someone has to tell him that he’s not pulling off these illusions.
