“I know you’re about to shit yourself with excitement, so out with it.”

“I… I’m glad. It means I worked hard, getting through my stuff. It’s just that… it’ll be a little weird now, getting back into it.”

“I thought so too. I asked him, he said to go slowly, so we will. And, well, the things I wanted, I’ll deal with them a little at a time.”

“Like the branding.”

I turned my head to see Noah staring at me. “Yes.”

“You still want to.”

“If you okay it, yes. I won’t do anything that you say no to, Eli. That’s the deal here.”

“I want it.” I said it, I meant it, but I wanted to wait. “In time.”

“Good. It’ll be at least a few months. I figured… maybe… once Damon and Burke get that club of theirs going…”

I lit up inside, thinking of that, but again, he’d surprised me. “In front of people?”

“Safer, yeah. If anything goes wrong, or if you need help, whatever, we’re not alone. Besides, I thought it might ease you some to have your friends there.”

“Ourfriends. I know they like you, Noah. I don’t want my friends or your friends anymore.”

He nodded and purred, “You’re my boy, though. All mine.”

“Yes, I sure am.”

His eyes were on fire, and his hand was kneading my pec. Still, though, he didn’t make a move. Then, I learned why. “When, uh,ourfriends leave tomorrow night, back to the city, well… I’m going to get you ready so I can get my fist up in that beautiful ass.”

Instead of starting with the belt or whipping me with some other tool, he was going to start where he wanted. “Can I come?”

“Yessir, you sure can.Ifyou can.”

“I have a feeling I will.”

We fucked slow and easy that night, with a lot of touching, kissing, tasting one another. It was a good place, that bed, with Noah over me, his hands and mouth on me. I’d overcome a lot, and I knew I still had a long way to go. As long as he was by my side, I knew I’d get there.

In time.

We took that time to look at the world from the front porch, from the back of horses, and from the soil, next to a tree, where we’d eat some of our lunches. We took time in bed, loving each other, talking, fucking. It was a different world, and it seemed time itself worked differently there.

We’d been together for months. From the first snow until the first of the wildflowers bloomed in the spring, and the cattle were brought back from their winter haven. It felt like years in some respects and seconds in others. Time with Noah. It was different, all right. It was special.

We left the ranch that next day, leaving a drooling Joel to tend to the work so Noah could help negotiate with the realtor over the house and land Damon and Burke wanted. Joel watched the two every second they were there, but he had yet to so much as introduce himself and wouldn’t allow us to do it.

Damon and Burke loved it, but their minds were soon on business as we drove into town, pulling up in front of a wood paneled building that was trying hard to get the feel of the old west. There was even a hitching post out front.

Quaint, the gay friends I’d had in the city would call it, and I think that was the word Burke would have used, if not in the company of country boys like Noah and Damon.

We sat in the office, four desks but only one woman in the place, and she greeted Noah with a kiss to his cheek. “Matty, hey,” Noah said, then introduced us to her. “Matilda Greene, this is Damon Street and Burke Monteleone, they’ve come to talk some business with you, and this is my partner, Eli James.”

“I’ve heard you were coupled up again, you old dog. He’s handsome,” she said, elbowing him playfully before shaking the three hands stretched out her way.

She was pretty, dark hair and skin, maybe in her forties, wearing a dark pink business suit with a broach that was emerald green and shaped like a leaf. Spring was in the air.

“And you are here to simply introduce us, or are you here for other reasons?”

“Making sure you work for them and not the sellers, Matty.”
