“But you did it anyway. And you got her over Hulk, which was a task.”

“I’m not sure that’s true,” I mutter, rubbing my hands over my face. “He’s the first man she ran to for help.”

“He was the closest at the time. But she doesn’t love him,” says Ella. “Not anymore.”

“How can you be so sure?” I ask.

“Because he told her about him and me.” She glances down at her hands and her cheeks flush. “And she wasn’t upset. But when he told her about you and Aurora, she was.”

“You just need to give her what she wants. Time,” says Lucy gently.

Chapter Eighteen

PIPER

I wait nervously in the hotel bar. I stayed here last night, and although I had reservations about telling Anton my exact location, I figured Tag would tell him anyway.

I feel his presence before I see him. The room shifts and eyes turn towards him because he looks every bit as important as he is. His sharp suit flexes with his muscles as he moves with panther-like stealth. The gold of his Rolex catches glimmers of light, drawing attention to it, but it’s the smouldering sexiness he oozes that gets the most attention from the women in the room. Even with his shades covering his dark brown eyes, he makes them swoon. He’s flanked by two security guards, and as he gets closer to my table, they split off to cover the entrance and exit.

Anton stops and lifts his shades. I try not to let it affect me, even though my stomach does flips. “Let’s go somewhere else and talk,” he says calmly.

I smirk, shaking my head. “Sit down, Anton.”

He’s not amused. His left eyes twitches with the need to put me in my place, but he relents and slides into the seat opposite me. “Do you feel powerful?” he asks, glancing around the room.

“Powerful?” I repeat.

“People fear me, my love. And here you are calling all the shots, bringing me to my knees,” he mutters, sounding bitter.

I smile. “I have no power, Anton. I’m just a very tired, pissed off female needing answers.”

“So, ask me the questions so I can tell you the answers and we can go home.”

“I’m not ready to come home, Anton,” I tell him firmly.

He growls in frustration. “You’re being ridiculous.”

“Don’t discard the way I feel,” I snap.

He holds his hands up. “Sorry,” he mutters.

“The feud with The Rebellion needs to stop,” I say.

He scoffs, shaking his head. “Impossible.”

I push to stand, and he glares at me. “You’re not even trying,” I say, grabbing my bag.

He inhales deeply. “Fine, sit, we’ll discuss.”

I lower again. “They’re my family, Anton. I can’t have bad blood between us all.”

“It doesn’t work like that, Piper. Hulk stole from the Mafia,” I hiss. “The deal we had needs to change, and Ace won’t be happy with that but it’s the way it has to be.”

“You make the rules,” I say.

“Ace knows the deal. I could’ve killed Hulk for what he’s done,” I snap, “but I let him live, and then he steals my wife.”

“I made him help me.”
