“And he knew he was already in my debt. When my men find him . . .” He lets the sentence hang between us.

“I can’t let you hurt him,” I whisper.

“Because you love him?” he hisses angrily.

“No,” I snap, grabbing his hand. He pulls it away. “Anton, I don’t love him.”

“Then stop begging for his life,” he growls.

“But he’s my friend,” I add. “When I went to him for help last night, he was the one who talked me out of getting the next flight out of here. He told me to stay and talk to you.”

“It still doesn’t make up for what he’s done. I have no choice.”

Tears balance on my lash line. “If you hurt Hulk, you’ll be hurting me. The club is my family, and I can’t turn my back on them. If you kill him, you’ll never be welcome there again. You’ll be making me choose,” I mutter.

“You’re my wife, there is no choice.”

“I have your money,” I add, and he frowns. “The money Hulk made from selling the drugs,” I add in a whisper. “He didn’t spend it. I have it.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because you have a choice, Anton. If you continue this feud with the club, I’ll take that money and I’ll leave here forever. I’ll keep moving so you can never find me.” He clenches his jaw. “Or, you can call it off, let Hulk live, and I’ll hand over the money, including my passport. I’ll stay and try to work things out with you.”

He stands, taking me by surprise. “I’ll be in touch,” he says, sliding his sunglasses back into place.

I frown. “You’re leaving?”

He strides away with his bodyguards hot on his tail.

ANTON

Lucy and Ella are in the hall, sitting on the stairs, when I return. They both stand as I enter. “What?” I ask, throwing my keys on the side table and removing my shades.

“How did it go?” asks Ella.

“And can I leave yet?” Lucy adds.

“None of your business and no,” I say, heading for the office.

They follow, and I groan. “You can’t keep me here,” snaps Lucy.

“Watch me. The deal was my wife for his, and Tag didn’t bring her to me, hence why you’re still here.”

“You are so annoying,” she hisses. “I have Abel at home.”

“Did you and Piper make up?” Ella asks.

“No,” I mutter coldly.

“Well, what happened?” she asks, sitting down.

“I’m not discussing it with you.”

“We can help,” she says, grabbing Lucy’s hand and tugging her to sit.

“She makes too many demands,” I snap. “Demands she doesn’t understand.”

“She begged for Hulk’s life?” Lucy guesses, giving a smug smile when I glare at her. “What do you expect? You’re messing with her family.”
