“He messed with me,” I snarl.

“Grow up,” mutters Lucy. “He stole, you know why he did it, you got the girl anyway, so what’s the problem?”

“The problem is, I have to make an example, or every man and his dog will think it’s okay to steal from me.”

Lucy rolls her eyes. “Then kill the next man, one who isn’t related to your wife.”

“It’s not that easy,” I mutter, pouring myself a drink.

“Offer her his life for something you want,” suggests Ella. “That way, you’re not losing anything.”

“I’m losing face,” I say.

“And that’s more important than Piper?” asks Lucy. “I have an idea.”

“I don’t want to hear it,” I mutter.

“I do,” says Ella.

“Offer his life for her.”

“She already offered that. Sort of.”

“So take it,” says Lucy, shrugging. “All sorted.”

“She told me she’d try,” I tell her. “It’s not enough.”

“She needs more,” says Ella. “Give her a reason to be here.”

“Like?” I ask, feeling more agitated by the second.

“A job, a home.” I wave my hand around, pointing out we have one of those. “It’s not her home. It’s our family home. Maybe suggest a job at the club?”

“Doing what exactly?”

“Management,” says Lucy casually. “She’s done some kind of course in that. She’s great at marketing too.”

I feel pissed that I didn’t already know this about her. “You should both leave. I have things to discuss with the club.”

“Like sparing Hulk?” asks Lucy as she stands. “Because if you hurt him, you’ll blow everything.”

Ace glares at me as he takes a seat at my desk. I called after I managed to talk the women into leaving me in peace. I insisted we talk, man to man, just the two of us.

“Where is he?” I ask. My men have been searching for Hulk since he and Piper ran, but he’s nowhere to be found.

“Not a clue,” he mutters. “He wouldn’t tell me.”

“She cares about him,” I say bitterly. “Piper.”

“She’s spent a long time looking out for him. I always thought they’d end up together.”

“She’s asked me to let him live.” Ace sits straighter, waiting for my next words. “What would you do in my shoes?” I ask, pulling out a bottle of whiskey from my desk, followed by two glasses.

“Honestly,” he murmurs, “I don’t know. I’ve been over it in my head a thousand times. He has no reason to do what he did, other than to get one over on you.”

“A huge mistake on his part,” I say, and Ace nods. “If I let him walk, my men will question my leadership.”

“Do they know?” he asks.
