I’m not a typically angry person, but lately, I really need an outlet for the rage constantly simmering inside of me.

"She actually started teaching a class for omegas and betas, focused on self-defense."

"That's amazing. I'll check it out when she's back from her vacation with her omega."

Aurora and her pack are so unusual and I love it.

"So you're not planning on running?" Aurora asks with a quirked brow.

I blow out a heavy breath. “It's still a consideration. It depends on how things progress. I won't let them have her."

She grimaces. “I understand. More than you know. I almost ran a couple years ago to this little spot in Wales that's known as a town of books."

"That sounds lovely. Why'd you stay?"

There are certainly worse places to run away to. Maybe I should look into that town as my Plan B.

A soft smile crosses her face. “My pack. And a fair amount of stubborn pride. I didn't want them to win and take more from me than they already had. But I also didn't have a child to protect. That makes everything a lot more complicated."

I rub at my face. “Yeah. I don't know what the right answer is. It should be simple. He signed away his rights, he shouldn't get to change his mind now. But he's an alpha, so he gets special privileges."

"It's bullshit, for real," Enzo adds, joining us after he finishes up a conversation with one of my customers he apparently knows. "So what happened? Any information that will help me?"

I lower my voice after checking on my customers, making sure they don't need anything. “They somehow found an old... friend of mine. An omega. And they've gotten him tangled up in this. He's here as some kind of bait, I guess? They haven't bonded him, but they're heavily courting him and brought him here saying we can all be a pack, like he's some kind of present they brought me."

Enzo frowns. ”That makes no sense. And is oddly terrifying."

"Yes."

"What did your old friend have to say?" Enzo asks.

"Not much, but he slipped me this before they left." I pull out the wrinkled note and drop it on the table between them.

After he reads it, Enzo eyes me. “Are you going?"

I shrug. “I have to, don't I? If it gives me a chance for answers?"

It’s a little bit terrifying, but I have to try. It looks like the only way I’ll get anything out of Jareth.

"Do you trust him?" Aurora asks.

"I don't know him anymore. I haven't seen him in almost ten years since we were sixteen."

But I trust him more than the other two.

"Well, you can’t go alone,” Enzo says.

"It's more important that someone stays with Lexie. If this is some way for him to draw me away from her so they can grab her or something, I need her protected."

"We can take her to our place,” Aurora offers. “She'll be safe and she will probably completely freak out once she sees our home library. I certainly did. And that way, you can bring Ryder and Hendrix with you.”

Enzo snorts. “I doubt they'll accept anything else."

"Thank you so much." I could fucking cry at their kindness.

She squeezes my arm. “Of course. We want to help however we can."

I'm not so foolish or proud to insist on doing this alone. Not with what's at stake. I'll accept the help and somehow I'll figure out a way to pay everyone back once this is all over.
