I turn to Enzo. "Have you found anything out yet?"

"Nothing concrete that'll be the slam dunk we need, but now that I know about the omega, I can aim the search a little better. Can you write down all the information you have on him? It might be easier to track him than the alphas. The Omega Council likes to keep a lot of records and they're easy enough to access."

I nod. “Hopefully I get some answers from Jareth tonight."

"Be careful what you say to him just in case this whole thing is a con."

I can't imagine a situation where Jareth would ever pull something like that, but people can change a lot in ten years. The last time we saw each other, our brains weren't even fully formed. Who knows what he's been through and what he's changed into.

I’m certainly not the same girl I used to be.

"I will."

Aurora sits back and rubs her hands together. “We're sticking around until it's time for you to close, so what can we glaze? I've been wanting to come and play in here for a while."

AURORA AND ENZO STAYjust like they said, even going so far as to walk with me to the school, claiming it's on their way to the library where they're headed to meet Oliver.

Some of the stiffness in my neck and shoulders relaxes once I'm inside Ryder's classroom and he's smiling at me. I linger, planning to stay until he finishes up.

"How was your day?" Ryder asks when I approach him.

Lexie is buried into a book again, ignoring us. Ignoring me, I bet too, still frustrated that I sent Ryder and Hendrix away from the house.

I sigh and lean against the edge of his desk. “Eventful."

"Did they come by?"

“Yes. But Enzo and Aurora came to keep an eye out and the cameras you installed should've caught everything." I wait until the final parent and their child is out of his classroom before I quietly recap everything that happened.

He's all but growling by the end. "You're not going alone tonight."

I smile at him, touched by his protectiveness. ”I know. I'm going to bring Lexie by Aurora's and you and Hendrix are both invited to go along with me."

Ryder’s growl turns into a satisfied purr. “Good. That's good."

"Thank you."

He glares playfully at me. “You don't have to keep thanking me for doing exactly what I want to do. And for doing what anyone with the slightest amount of decency would do."

"Still. Anyone with the slightest amount of decency would also want to express their gratitude."

He glances over at Lexie before lowering his voice even more, green eyes darkening. “When you say snarky shit like that, it makes me want to punish your mouth."

Heat swarms through me, my scent thickening as arousal flares. “What's stopping you?"

He runs his tongue across his bottom lip, trapping me in his gaze. “When I finally kiss you, it's not going to be with all this shit hanging over your head and when you're still recovering from being ill."

I run a finger down the center of his sweater vest. ”I’m feeling all better."

"Liar." He steps so close, we almost share breath. "There's no rush, sweetheart. We have all the time in the world."

Do we though?

Not if I have to run. Something I really don't want to do.

He steps back, giving me space for my head to clear, reminding me we’re in his classroom and my daughter is right here a few steps away.
