Chapter Twenty-Nine

Moira

––––––––

FOR DAYS, THINGS CONTINUEon as usual without a single sign or bit of contact from Brad and Nicole. It has me anxious and on edge, jumping at every loud noise and ding from my phone. There's no way they're going to just accept me stealing their omega from them. They're not going to let him go. Or Lexie.

Alphas aren't used to not getting what they want and they're not going to take it well. Which means they're planning something.

They said two days, but it’s been almost a week. I don’t think they’re sophisticated enough for psychological torture, so it has to be something else.

Ryder and Hendrix have been keeping close, taking turns checking on us.

This evening, it’s Ryder hanging out in the studio while Lexie and Jareth are upstairs up to something.

"Why don't the three of you come stay with me for the weekend? Hendrix can come too."

I blink at him, my worries still clinging to me, keeping me distracted. “What?"

Ryder smiles. “They won't look for you there, you know you'll be safe, and that way you might actually be able to relax a little bit. The school has a three day weekend, so Lexie and I are both off on Monday like you. Hendrix should be too. We could just enjoy the holiday."

"That sounds wonderful, but I'm worried Lexie will refuse to leave."

Ryder shrugs. “That's perfectly fine. You can stay as long as you want."

I splutter. “We can't just move in with you."

He stares at me, green eyes as serious as ever. “Why not?"

I shake my head, stumbling over my words. “Well, because it's too soon"

He waves off my concern. “Says who? We've been courting you for two months now and omegas in the exchange program and often settled in packs with fresh bond bites by then. Who cares if it seems fast? Worry about if it feels right for you. There's no rush, but I want you to know that you're welcome to move in whenever you want. I'm ready. I'm pretty confident Hendrix is as well. And you're already living with Jareth. Take your time if you need to, but don't hold back out of fear for what's proper. Who gives a fuck?"

I raise a brow. “You won't get into trouble for moving the mother of one of your students into your home?"

Ryder scoffs. ”You know better than that. It's kindergarten, it's not like there's much special treatment I can even give her. Plus, I don't care if they don't like it. You and Lexie are both worth it."
