"Okay." I keep my answer simple.

He’s right, it’ll be fun and it’ll definitely be a good test to see how things go.

His eyes widen. “Okay?"

I nod. “We'll come for the weekend and see how things go. No promises for past that, but I can do the weekend. We just have to make it clear to Lexie that the weekend is all it is. I don't want her getting her hopes up."

"Deal." He pulls out his phone. "I'm texting Hendrix about it now. I'll let you tell Lexie and Jareth the good news."

"That's sweet of you,” I tease.

He sniffs. “Well, I'm very sweet, contrary to your first impression of me."

I snort. “That's for sure."

Ryder narrows his eyes at me. “Rude."

I shrug. “You were the rude one."

He grimaces. “I was. Have I apologized for that recently?"

"You have not."

"Then allow me to rectify that." He sinks to one knee in front of me, his eyes glinting. "Forgive me for the unforgivable way I dared to treat such a beautiful and perfect woman as you. Please put this poor fool out of his misery and show me mercy by forgiving me for being such an utter piece of shit."

I laugh. “You're forgiven."

He's irresistible like this, dropping his stern and serious demeanor for something more light and fun. I drop to my knees in front of him and smile as I press a kiss to his lips, shivering at the growl he releases into my mouth, his hands shooting out to gently cup my face as my own hands steady myself with a tight grip on his shoulders.

He tastes like honey tea and he feels just as sweet with his body pressed against mine.

Clattering footsteps interrupt and break us apart, though there's nothing to be done about the scent of our arousal thick around us.

Lexie and Jareth burst inside, both of them brimming with excitement.

“Couch Hendrix texted Mr. Jareth! We're going to spend the weekend at Mr. Bouchard’s.”

I eye Ryder. “I thought I got to be the one who told them?"

He shrugs with a low laugh. ”I guess Hendrix decided to deliver the good news himself even though he has nothing to do with the decision."

I turn back to Lexie. “We are going to spend the weekend. Why don't you go get started on your packing."

"What should I bring?" She asks.

"Clothes, your basketball, and anything else you want to play with while you're at my place."

"Okay." She pauses, her nose wrinkled. "Are you okay? You smell weird. I don't know what that is."

I flush red and avoid Jareth and Ryder’s eyes. “Ryder and I were uh...teasing each other. And then we got overheated."

"Huh."

Jareth distracts her. “Will you help me pack?"

She sighs. “I guess you should've just left your stuff in bags. But I'll help. I hate packing, but I'm pretty good at it."

A shard of guilt wedges itself into my heart as they head back upstairs.
