Her shoulders seemed to collapse into her chest. “Brien…I didn’t have a choice. My halmoni—”

“You did have a choice,” I interrupted. “I’m a fucking syndicate prince. You think I can’t keep one human female safe? Now sit.”

She stopped arguing and sank onto the couch. “Then you will send someone to guard her?”

“Yes,” I gritted.

She gave me a searching look. “Promise?”

My jaw worked. This was a god-awful time to send any of our allies in the syndicate off-island, but this was Twilight’s family—and an elder. I was damned if I’d let anyone mess with her.

“Talon,” I said, and he and Cain joined us.

“Twilight’s grandmother is in danger,” I told him. “I want you to send a couple of soldiers to guard her.”

Talon immediately pulled out his phone. “Name?” he asked Twilight.

“MinJi Park. She lives in a condo.” She rattled off the address.

He noted it on his phone. “I’ll get a couple of soldiers on it ASAP.”

Twilight’s face lit up like I’d given her a diamond necklace. “Thank you.” She swallowed thickly, tears shimmering in her eyes. “I…thank you. She’s all I have. I’ve been so worried.” Another shiver shook her, and her teeth clicked together.

I expelled a breath and strode into the bedroom for a blanket. “Here.” I draped it around her shoulders.

“Thank you,” she said so politely I wanted to shake her. “May I have some water, too?”

Talon got her a bottle from the wet bar. Meanwhile, Cain opened a bottle of blood-whiskey and poured double shots for the three of us.

Cain and Talon raised their glasses to me. “To you wiping the floor with Prosper’s ass,” Cain said, and Talon murmured assent.

It wouldn’t be easy, but I appreciated their faith in me. I touched my glass to his and Talon’s. “Fuck, yeah.”

“May Lilith be with you,” Talon added.

“To Lilith,” Cain and I echoed.

I tossed the shot back. The whiskey burn was followed by the warm glow of the blood.

“You’ve got this,” Talon said.

“I’m not worried. I’d hoped to avoid a challenge, but—” I shrugged and set the glass on the bar.

He nodded. “This might be for the best, actually. Beat Prosper and the rest of the hierarchy will fall in line.”

“Exactly. That’s why I pushed him.”

Talon grunted. “Thought so.”

“What about her?” Cain cut his eyes at Twilight, who wasn’t even pretending not to listen.

I dropped my voice. “If I lose, I want your promise that you’ll both do whatever it takes to get her off the island. If you don’t, she’s dead.” That’s if Prosper was merciful enough to kill her quickly.

Cain replied in the same subvocal tones. “Don’t worry. We’ll see her safely out of Canada.”

“If it’s at all possible,” Talon added, always the truth-teller, because we all knew they might not be able to spirit Twilight away in time, especially if Prosper gave them a direct order not to help her.

“Get her a passport and money.” I named an amount that made them both lift their brows. “And a phone,” I added. “That’s a priority—have it ready by the morning.”
