Cain glanced at Twilight. “You sure that’s a good idea?”

“She knows if she runs, I’ll only hunt her down. And if things go south, I want her to have options.”

“Consider it done, then,” said Cain. “Meanwhile, let’s get a description of this man she says is blackmailing her. And I’d like to know more about those notes she received.”

“You believe her, then?”

Cain lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “She got that switchblade from somewhere.”

Talon’s dark brows came together. “What man was blackmailing her? And what’s this about a switchblade? She didn’t have any weapons. I made sure of that.”

Cain brought him up to date with a few terse sentences.

Talon scowled. “How the fuck did someone get into her bedroom without us knowing it?”

“That’s what I’d like to know.” I started across the room to Twilight.

She tensed and straightened her spine, her gaze jumping between the three of us like we were the Inquisition. “What?”

“Relax.” Cain leaned a hip on the opposite end of the couch from her, arms folded over his chest. “We’re trying to figure out how this SOB got to you. You received the first note while you were still on the jet?”

She nodded. “That’s right.”

“Tell us about it,” Cain invited as Talon and I took the chairs across from them. “Anything you can remember.”

“There’s not much to tell.” Twilight spread her fingers, rubbed them up and down her thighs. “Like I said, I found the note in my back pocket. I have no idea how it got there. I suppose it could’ve already been in the pocket when I got dressed.”

“I rode in the SUV with you to the airport,” I said. “And on the jet, you were next to the window with me on your other side.”

“But you didn’t board with me,” Twilight pointed out. “I got on in a group with Pinky, Lesa and Eden.”

“You think one of them put it in your pocket?” Talon shook his head. “They’ve all been with us for at least a couple of years.”

“I’m not accusing anyone. Just telling you what happened. But—” She glanced at Talon and folded her lips in.

“Tell us,” I told her.

“It’s Eden. Every time I step out of my suite, she’s there. It’s like she’s waiting for me.”

Talon drew a harsh breath.

“I don’t have any proof,” Twilight added. “Just a gut feeling.”

I squeezed my nape. “Eden grew up right here on the island. We’ve known her since she was a kid.”

“So did Lesa and Pinky,” murmured Cain.

“Right,” said Twilight with a glance at Talon’s set face. “Forget I said anything.”

“No,” he said. “I’ll question her myself.”

Avril’s knock interrupted us. Cain let her in, and she entered with a tray of bread, cheese, fruit and a steaming bowl of seafood chowder. “I’ll just set this down and get Twilight’s clothes.”

I thanked her without looking at her, my mind on Twilight’s blackmailer.

“Even if it was one of the thralls,” I said to Cain and Talon, “it doesn’t explain the switchblade or the second note threatening Twilight’s grandmother. The other thralls didn’t have access to Twilight’s suite.”

Avril made a small, sharp sound. She lowered the tray onto the coffee table in front of Twilight.
