He looked back at my throat, and he seemed to catch himself. His thrusts slowed. “I shouldn’t.”

I cupped his nape and urged him back to me. “I want it.”

His Adam’s apple bobbed. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

I gave him a little shake. “Don’t.”

“Don’t what?”

“Hold back. I want all of you, understand? You’re my mate.”

His lashes came down, veiling his eyes. Then he licked my throat. Something in me uncurled and pulsed, eager for what he could give me.

“Do it, damn you. I want it.”

He groaned out my name. Sharp points touched my throat. He drew his hips back and thrust deep inside me at the same time his fangs broke my skin, sinking into the vein, sending a jolt of pleasure straight to my sex.

He drew hard on my throat in time to his pumping hips. Fire licked at my throat, burning a path over my nerves to my nipples, my clit.

“That’s it,” I said against his temple. “Fuck me. Take me. Don’t stop. Don’t. Ever. Stop.”

My sex tightened around him. He gave a last suck and released me, licking the small wounds to close them, while his hips continued to thrust.

The fire raced up my spine to my brain. Through the bond, I felt his pleasure, and knew he also felt mine.

The sensations ratcheted up. From somewhere far away, I heard myself make a high, keening sound. I gulped oxygen, my entire being vibrating with the wild sweetness of it.

He thrust, hard and fast. We both stilled, then groaned as we climaxed simultaneously. It was as if we’d broken free of our bodies and hurtled into a special space where it was just the two of us, twined together in endless, mind-blowing pleasure.

Then we were back in the shower, Brien’s face buried in my throat, hot water raining down around our heads.

BRIEN

When I woke up the next evening, Twilight was perched on a chair next to my bed, her dark hair falling forward over her face, her arms around her knees, contemplating her bare toes.

My mate.

My stomach clenched, but in a good way.

I could hardly believe this beautiful, passionate woman had agreed to be mine for the rest of her life.

But she had. She’d accepted to the mate bond. She really did love me.

I propped my head on my hand. “Hey, angel.”

“Hey.” Lifting her head, she offered me a half-hearted smile.

Okay, that wasn’t like Twilight. And now that I was more awake, I sensed something was bothering her. In fact, I’d been feeling her turmoil even in my sleep.

I sat up. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?”

She hitched a shoulder. “Nothing. Just…thinking about our mating and everything.”

“And?” I reached out a hand and she came to me. I pulled her onto my lap. “Tell me. You’re my heart. Whatever’s bothering you, I’ll make it right. Are you worried about the syndicate accepting you? Because they’ll come around. Vampires know how it is with a mate. It’s not fully under our control.”

And those who didn’t come around would answer to me.
