I dragged in a breath, my body still humming but wanting more. The sky shifted, the stars streaking crazily across the night-dark surface, and then I was on my back with Brien’s body pressing me to the cold stone floor.

He stopped drinking long enough to tear his clothes off, his skin gleaming in the dark, his eyes rimmed with electric blue. He licked the blood spurting from my throat and began to suck again. With one hand, he caressed my breasts, pinching the nipples into hardness while he pressed inside me, slow and firm.

He slipped his hand under my shoulders, holding me to him while he fucked me in time to the surge of the ocean against the cliffs.

A heavy, drugging pleasure flowed through me. I wrapped my arms and thighs around him. “I love you. So much.”

He hugged me closer in a wordless response.

Drinking. Thrusting. Drinking.

The pleasure increased until a second orgasm screamed through me. I tightened my grip on him and sobbed out his name.

He made a guttural sound low in his throat and pressed deep, then stilled, coming inside me in warm gushes of heat.

I was fading now, his hard body my only anchor to consciousness. As I grew weaker, my arms and legs fell away from him. Fear licked at me.

“Easy,” he murmured at my throat. “I’ve got you.”

“Yes…” My agitation settled. I wanted this, and I trusted him to do it right.

Darkness edged my vision.

Brien framed my face in his palms. “Look at me, badass.”

When I forced my eyelids open, he brushed his mouth over mine. “I love you.”

I gave a faint chuckle. “Nowyou tell me.”

“Youwillmake it. Promise me.”

“Hell yeah,” I managed to say.

A second later, a bright light exploded behind my eyes. The sky rushed toward me, then everything went black.

From a distance, I heard Brien swear.

A warm liquid filled my mouth. I sputtered and choked. I tried to turn my head but firm fingers kept me where I was, my lips pressed to Brien’s wrist.

“Swallow,” he muttered.

This was part of it, I reminded myself. I had to drink or die.

So I did. The blood tasted of Brien and salt, like he’d mixed his essence with the ocean.

I sucked harder, greedily, mindlessly.

“That’s enough,” Brien said.

I made a sound of protest, but he was too strong. He pulled away, but only so he could lift me.

Like a lightning bolt, pain struck out of nowhere. I screamed and arched my back in agony.

“Twilight.” Brien’s voice was as agonized as mine.

He sped up. I was dimly aware of him running with me through the castle and down the stairs again and through the tunnels. I must’ve passed out for a short time, because I came to as he deposited me on soft, sandy surface.

A grave.
