“You afraid of a little pain?”

“Oh, please! Do not make it out like I’m being unreasonable.” Devin growled, holding Elise tight as she stalked past Rey and down the hall. “I’d make a shit mother.”

“You will be a wonderful mother,” Rey said quietly, following several paces behind her as Devin entered the spare room turned nursery. “Just look at the advice you’re handing out.”

Devin snorted, settling Elise in the crib. “Don’t get caught, and if you do have the misfortune, rip their fucking hearts out. Yeah, great advice.”

She didn’t see him coming up behind her. So caught up in her anger and exhaustion, she couldn’t even get the shrill cry of outrage past her lips as Rey’s hand closed over her mouth. He silenced her as he hefted Devin against him and took her to their bedroom. Far enough away from the sleeping children they wouldn’t hear.

“Telling her to be strong isn’t wrong,” Rey growled at Devin’s ear, the arm holding her tightening until she could barely breathe.

“It didn’t get me anywhere, did it,” Devin demanded in a low snarl as Rey took his hand away.

Finding herself slammed face down into the bed, Rey’s crushing weight atop her, Devin wheezed a warbling complaint. Smothered by the scent of scalded espresso, her eyes squeezed shut against the discordant hum of the bond.

“It got you here. To me,” he said against her ear, voice rough with far more than just anger. “You going to say that wasn’t worth it?”

“Don’t ask me that,” Devin whispered, turning her face into the rumpled sheets to hide the tears slipping over her lashes. The constant exhaustion and stress wore her nerves down, leaving her raw and in pain. Any response she might have for him would be tainted by that.

Rey wouldn’t be satisfied with anything less than what he wanted from her.

“Wrong answer,” he growled against her shoulder before he dragged his teeth over his mark. “You are mine. I think it’s time I remind you of that fact.”

With ease he flipped Devin over, her wrists captured and held taut above her head. Forcing her trembling legs open, he made room for his far larger body until he could bring their hips flush. Letting her feel the punishing length of him separated by nothing more than thin layers of cloth as he ground it against her.

“You will give me what I want, Devin. I don’t care what you think. You were made for me, and I’ve known it since the moment I laid eyes on you.” A sharp roll of his hips tried to shove her up the bed, but he pulled her back. Forcing her to feel him as he rubbed his scent into her clothes and the beginnings of a low call built in his chest.

“Daniel, please don’t do this.”

“I won’t let you deny me, hear me? I haven’t forgotten. Once this shit with Kahler is over, my plan still stands. You’re just going to have to accept it, Devin. Do whatever it is you need to do to come to terms with it.” Rey brought their lips close, breathing his next words against her. “Because I’m not stopping until I put my baby in you. Fuck the club and everything else, I will keep you high on hormones until you do.”

“No!”

“Yes.”

“You can’t do—”

“I can do whatever the hell I please, sweetheart,” he said with a vicious twist of his lips, too harsh and bitter to be called a smile. “Call those Omegas whatever you like. Hate them if you want, but—”

“I don’t hate them,” Devin shouted, shoving at Rey’s shoulders until he gave her enough space to glare up at him. She gave a wordless cry when he proved it was for his own purposes, his fist closing over the frail barrier of her pants. Rey ripped them away, the seams cutting deep into her skin before they gave way to lay her bare.

“Could have fooled me,” he murmured, distracted as he shuffled free of his boxers. He rumbled a satisfied growl as he closed the distance between them, sliding against her as delicate flesh grew slick.

“I hate that those things don’t make me happy. I’m broken,” Devin sobbed, trying to twist away in a moment of panic as Rey grew still.

Chapter Seven

Her secret shame lingered in the dark, stabbing at her as she squirmed over the pillows to get free. Devin swallowed her shriek as Rey dragged her under him again, his arm caught beneath her lower back.

There would be no escape.

“What?”

“Something’s wrong with me. I’m not right.” Though she whispered the words, they cracked and trembled as they poured from between her lips. Devin had no idea if he compelled her to continue, but she found more of that terrible truth slipping past her resolve. “I’m broken and-and I’ve always been that way. You don’t—”

Rey silenced her with a bruising kiss. Mouth slanting over hers, a low rumble built deep in his chest. He kissed her as if he sought to drive the words not only from the air, but from her lips and thoughts. The growl he voiced, forcing Devin to breathe it in, stole her will. Making her pliant in his arms as Rey arranged their bodies to slide deep inside of her.

When he released her, they were both breathless. Devin’s heart hammered against her ribs, warming her entire body as a low moan whispered over her lips. Rey was in no hurry, large palms sliding over her thighs to guide her legs over his hips. Once Devin was where he wanted her, his fingers delved deep into her hair to angle her for another devastating kiss.
