Movements slow, as if he savored every measured thrust, he attacked Devin’s senses in a sensual dance. His quiet call whispered over her flesh, prickling her skin as she gasped and arched into the sound. Despite the negations battering the back of her mind, her arms wrapped around him. Clinging to the powerful Alpha who tried to make all the horrible things go away in the simple act.

“There isnothingwrong with you,” Rey rasped between rough nips to the long line of her throat as Devin’s head fell back into the pillows.

He didn’t give her a chance to respond. Building his rhythm so that Devin’s breaths left her on quiet trills and moans. Though he remained gentle, there was a purpose and determination to this she’d never experienced from Rey. A single-minded dedication that thrilled and terrified in equal measures.

Indescribable pleasure built within her. Burning through the cradle of her hips to lash at her senses with every thrust of his cock into the deepest part of her. Touching her in ways Devin wasn’t sure she could withstand as this new sensation made everything so very different.

The bond coming alive with a flood of emotions was her undoing.

Groaning against the sweat sheened skin of his shoulder, Devin clung to Rey as he rushed her towards the precipice. Indescribable need, passion, and… love. Ever doubting his claims, she felt it now. Knew down to the depths of her soul that he loved her in a way she had never guessed at. There was no question in her mind that it was her, all of her, that he adored. Not just the idea of an Omega, a submissive creature that needed her mate.Her. Devin sobbed against her claiming mark as she realized that at some point she had fallen for him. It went far beyond primal instinct and the bond. She loved him.

It was still new enough, quiet and small, but it was there.

The shock to her system so great amid the ecstasy Rey plied her body with, Devin muffled her scream of release against him. Contracting over his driving length, she urged forth the knot. Pleading in wordless demand for him to culminate the wondrous sensations within her.

Fingers tangled in her hair to wrench Devin’s head back. Rey’s mouth covered hers in a violent kiss as he sent his roar into her lungs. Shoving home a final time, the knot swelled. Growing thick and solid inside of her, it locked behind her pelvic bone to tie them together.

“Shh, don’t cry, sweetheart,” Rey husked against her lips as his thumbs smeared the wetness from Devin’s cheeks. He thought her upset, offering comfort and gentleness as he began to purr and scrub at her scalp.

“Again,” Devin whispered, twitching her hips to shift the unbearable thickness of him inside of her.

Pausing for a breath of a moment, Rey caught and held her gaze. The flash of his small smile was dazzling before he once again claimed her lips.

“Maybe I should carry her,” Rey muttered as he helped Devin into her coat at the door.

“And be killed when Kahler scents you on the carrier, and that’s if one of his men doesn’t tattle? I think not.” Devin snorted and bent to check the buckles securing Elise one more time.

Word had come that morning. Kahler’s mate was returning home and the children would be coming back. While glad she no longer had to play house with someone else’s kids, she would only admit to herself that she’d fallen into an easy rhythm. While Rey might insist it was only because they weren’t her own, Devin still felt no emotional attachment to even the idea. He’d listened to her halting confession between bouts of their intense love making. She couldn’t call it anything as paltry or simple as sex.

Rey had an excuse and argument for every fear she had, but she was afraid he wasn’t listening. Alphas needed children as much as Omegas did. He couldn’t accept that Devin might not adapt.

“Adam, come on,” Devin called to the toddler racing back and forth down the hall. Holding her hand out, she made sure to touch him as little as possible as she led him out to the waiting SUV Kahler had sent. With Elise cooing in the carrier in her other hand, she wondered at how awkward it all felt. It became more so once she realized the car seats for both were on either side of the long bench of the backseat.

Despite having given both kids a bath as soon as they had a time for departure and taking great care to touch them as little as possible, Devin fretted over her scent blanketing them. If she was territorial over something as inanimate as a house, how would a wounded Omega feel about another touching her kids?

Sighing, Devin saw no other option but to squeeze between them, thankful for her small size as she kept her limbs tucked in tight.

Rey was in the front with one of Kahler’s men, Beau following in another SUV. Devin heard some mention of different routes so as to confusing any would-be kidnappers, but she refused to let herself think about it. She would worry about it if it happened.

It seemed to take no time at all for them to steer behind a matching vehicle though Devin noted it was approaching afternoon. They followed the car out of the city from downtown, winding through backroads and switchbacks before their course straightened. Out into the lush green hills where Kahler’s expansive mansion hid against a small pocket of forest.

“Hungry,” Adam grumbled from beside her, fidgeting in his seat.

“I know, sweetie. I’m sure your… your dad will feed you once we get there.”

“Mama! I want Mama!” Large, fat tears shimmered in the rich hazel gaze he turned up to Devin, lower lip trembling.

“I know you do,” Devin said, straining for a calm she didn’t feel. She didn’t want to promise the kid his mom if she would still be injured and bed bound. “Come on, why don’t you play your game on the tablet?”

“Don’t wanna,” he snapped, but still he took the offered electronic and began tapping the colors and animals, much to Elise’s delight.

They all remained otherwise quiet until they pulled in behind Kahler’s car. Devin tried not to stare wide eyed as she saw the ghost of a woman being led into the house. If that was Quinn, Devin had nothing but pity for her. Looking more than half dead and withered to skin and bones, she hated Kahler all the more for abusing the poor woman. Any grace she’d given him for his love of his kids vanished in an instant.

“Gods, she’s…” Devin snapped her mouth shut so hard her teeth clacked as she aimed a smile at Adam as she helped him clamber down from the tall car by a single hand hold, Elise once again dangling in her carrier.

The trek to the door was short, Kahler waiting for them with a cold, dead expression before the woman came rushing back just as they entered the house.
