“It’s hot in here is all,” I lied, forcing myself to swallow the cry that wanted to come out of me instead of words.

“Mind explaining to me why she was able to get coke in the first place?”

“It wasn’t hard. It was under the pillow.” I shrugged.

“Why?” Viking stepped closer but kept his focus on Stone.

“Who in the shit knows with him. He said the last piece of ass that stayed in here must have stashed it for later.”

“I see. Well, we need her alive, so get it out.”

“What do you mean get it out? You’re not going anywhere near my ass. It’ll pass at some point, or I’ll die. Either way,he’snot getting it out.”

“Little one, you’re in no position to make demands,” Viking said with a nod. “At least for today I can’t let you die. We’ll revisit the subject soon, though.”

“Get it done.” Viking ran his hand over his long beard and left the room almost as fast as he entered it.

“Graham, I know we started off on the wrong foot. Hell, I’ll even admit a little of that was my fault.” The words blurted out of my mouth in a hurry as he took a step toward where I sat on the edge of the bed. “I didn’t want to swallow anything, but you left me with no choice. I want to see Maryanne.” Given the events that had taken place since I met this man it was about as clear as mud, but I honestly didn’t have a death wish. I didn’t want to die. I was desperate to save her and arguing with him didn’t sway him at all. As soon as we got here, we were pulled in different directions. For all I knew Sticks or someone else was torturing her right now. I prayed with everything within me that she was still alive. These people had made it a known fact that they needed me, but nothing similar had been said about Maryanne. Chances were, they didn’t need her which meant she was in more danger than I was. Hoping it didn’t end with me dying, I pushed the envelope and would continue to do so to ensure her safety. She might not be my blood, but she was my sister.

“I told you she is as safe as you are.”

“Did you miss the part where we’ve been abducted by strangers who carry guns, keep coke under a pillow, and took us to a second location?”

“No. I didn’t say either of you were safe. I said she was as safe as you were, Bird.”

“Now,” he stated before he turned, grabbing something from the other side of the nightstand before facing me again. “This will be a lot easier if you let me help you.”

“What the crap?” I squeaked, eyeing a giant bottle of dishwashing liquid. “Look, I said you weren’t coming anywhere near my ass, and I meant it! Besides even if it were to come down to that, one I’m sure it hasn’t made its way through my system yet. For two, dishwashing liquid isn’t lube.”

He shook his head and sighed. “Fucking hell. I’m trying to help save your life. Why is that such a hard concept for you to grasp? It’s to make you puke if the ipecac doesn’t work. I’m giving you a choice. The blue drink or the medicine.”

I opened my mouth to tell him there was no way in hell this was happening, but it had to. Swallowing the bag of drugs was probably the stupidest thing I had ever done and the sooner it was out of my body the better. “The meds.”

Stone poured the liquid into a medicine cup and held it up to the light, checking the dosage. “Drink this and then you’re going to down three glasses of water.”

“Fine.” I did as he instructed, and the bitter taste of the medicine almost had me puking instantly. The feeling soon passed, and we were left to stare at one another.

“Were you a drug mule in the past?”

“No. Why?” I rolled my eyes. “Oh, the drugs. Maybe.”

“That was fucking reckless, you know that right?”

I shrugged. “Bucket. Now,” I barely got out while saliva pooled around my tongue. He was fast to grab the bucket and get it in front of me. My throat burned as bile lurched up it and shot out of my lips. Pain ripped up my throat as the lump of drugs traveled out of me. I’d never been so thankful to vomit in my life.

“Here.” Stone handed me a cold wet paper towel. “Now, let’s make a deal.”

“I’m not agreeing to shit with you,” I groaned, wiping my face while my stomach twisted into knots, before more bile flooded out of my body.

“This isn’t a negotiation, Bird.Youdon’t have many choices right now. If I say jump, you leap as high as I order you to. Got it?”

“Sure.” I didn’t have it in me to argue with him at this point, so I agreed with him. Despite what I said, I had no intention of doing anything he told me to do.

“Don’t fucking try to kill yourself again. Okay?”

“Why not? For all I know, Maryanne is dead and I’m next.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. “She’s fine. Got it?” His hand wrapped around my upper arm and straightened me back into a sitting position. “Down to business. How do you know the Falbos?”
