“I said fucking no!” she enunciated every word with more volume than the last. MaryAnne darted up and glared at me at once.

“She said no, biker man.” Maryanne backed her friend in a sleepy tone, more than likely she had zero to no idea what she was even getting in the middle of.

“You don’t have a choice.” My fingers wrapped around Reggy’s thighs, and I flipped her body over my shoulder. My boot pounded against the door, and it slammed shut. Maryanne scooted across the backseat and Sticks clicked the automatic locks. “You stay,” I ordered through gritted teeth.

“The fuck?” Bird squeaked as soon as the upper half of her body was hanging over my shoulder. “Put me down.”

“No.”

“Yes. You heard me.”

“You heard me,” I growled repeating her words while setting her on the trunk of the car with a thud and pinned her between my arms. “Now actually listen. This is the last fucking time I will do this. I don’t forgive and I sure as shit don’t show mercy. I’m not a merciful person, I’m a cold-hearted killer, Reggy. You clearly don’t understand who you are saying no to. People don’t tell me no and when they do, they only get a chance to try a second time. I will fucking kill you if you don’t do what I want. Do you fucking understand?” I shouted in her face; my sides shook from the volume of my voice.

“You don’t scare me,” she barked, leaning in closer and wrapping her arms around her body as she shivered.

“I should.”

“Well, you d-d-don’t.” She shivered again as she stuttered.

I sighed, unzipping my black hoody, and handed it to her. “Are you afraid of me?” I, asked, truly curious what her answer would be. No one her size had ever been brave enough to stand up to me. Heck, not many twice her size had.

“Nope.” She glared at me but took the hoody as fast as her hands could wrap around it and was fast to put it over her body. “I have brothers. I understand the majority of the male population all feel like they have something to prove. Men can’t help themselves. I know things.”

“Oh, you do, do you?” A small laugh passed through my lips.

“Yep,” she said so sure of herself.

I chewed on the inside of my cheek to keep from full on laughing in her face and the rage that was bubbling under my skin surfaced. “Gorgeous, clueless bird.” I shook my head. “Nothing about this situation is like anything you’ve ever been in. I can assure you of that fact. I’ve watched you for weeks, waiting for the precise moment to strike. Honestly, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation if Sticks and I hadn’t murdered the men trying to do exactly that to you. Maybe worse. Knowing devious bastards is what I do and for them to simply kill you would have been a miracle. Most men in my line of work do a lot more than sink a knife in gorgeous flesh like yours. They aren’t interested in only getting their blade wet. Do you understand what I am telling you, Bird? Do you get I fucking put my life on the line to save yours? Do you realize that just a few short hours ago these hands were doing what they do best? Killing.” I held my palms in front of her face and then placed them on her hips. “Maybe you do and that’s exactly why you keep pushing me. You have a death wish, is that it?” My voice was barely above a gruff whisper and my chest heaved as my heart pounded against it.

She shook her head slowly, her eyes widening with fear. Good. She was finally feeling the emotion she should. Fear. She should be afraid of me. She shouldn’t trust me, because I didn’t trust myself at this point. I wanted to stop talking, but it was either continue, or flip her over the trunk and punish her by smacking her ass until the fury inside of me was gone. It was clear if one more defiant word left her mouth, I would lose all fucking control and hurt her, so I continued my rant.

I needed an outlet, and words seemed to be the only thing I would allow myself to have right now. “Not so brave now, are you? What’s wrong? Did you see the monster for who he really is?” I spat out sourly, recognizing the second expression on her face. Disgust. She was repulsed by me and even though it shouldn’t have, it stung. I wanted her to hate me and not look at me with her doe eyes filling with hope.

“No. I don’t even know you, Graham, but I can tell you this isn’t who you really are. This is who you want the world tothinkyou are, but I see you. I fucking see you beneath that hardass exterior.” She glared at me, fuming with hate.

“Then who the fuck am I? Tell me, oh wise one.” I seethed, squeezing her thighs under my grasp so hard she quietly groaned from the pain, biting her bottom lip to suppress the noise. So what if she saw me, I fucking saw her too. The speed of the lightning-fast dilating pupils screamed of the fear her body felt despite her poisonous words. The goosebumps rising on her otherwise flawless skin deceived her flesh of what she was trying to hide. A normal reaction when faced with a killer like me. She was scared and I was fucking pissed. She’d pushed me to this point and there was no going back.

What gave her the right to use my name so freely? She didn’t fucking know me any more than I knew her. Hell, if anything, after tailing her for so long I had the upper hand here, having far more info on her. She was so sure of every fucking insult that fell from her mouth, and I was about to prove to her how wrong she was for ever thinking she had a right to speak to me in this manner. Every syllable that fell from her wise ass tongue delivered another lash to my already bruised ego. I was on the precipice of losing all control on her. It wasn’t on me what happened next. Hell no. I wouldn’t take that blame. She was pushing my boundaries and she knew it. I wouldn’t take the responsibility for what I did after this.

She shrugged. “Maybe you should ask yourself that. Sure, you might kill people, but if you wanted me dead, I would already be in a ditch somewhere. You haven’t killed me, which means you either need me or you want me to live. Either works for me.” She slid off the trunk, letting my fingers drag up her body as my grip loosened. My teeth pushed into my bottom lip. I didn’t know if I was amazed by her smarts or pissed off by her spite.

“You’re getting back into the car,” I barked through my gritted teeth, grabbing her shoulders to still her.

“Well, I’m sure as shit not staying in the cold.” She faked a smile and then dunked under my straightened arm. “Are you?” She winked.

That was it. My next actions weren’t something I was going to be held responsible for. “Don’t fucking move,” I breathed the warning barely above a whisper, slamming my palm against the car in front of her face.

“Watch yourself, biker ma—” Maryanne shouted through the window, her fingers frantically pulling to open the door, after unlocking it. Sticks shot her a look to warn her, and she quit talking.

Reggy’s eyes focused on my fingers and then slowly found their way to mine. “Or what?”

My free hand jerked up to her throat and my fingers cupped the sides, the pressure behind them increased with each second that passed. Her body thrashed underneath my grasp and her eyes widened. I pressed my body against hers, pinning her to the car. “I. Will. Fucking. Kill. You,” I whispered, leaning in farther. Her warm breath heated my lips from the small distance that remained between us.

“Not if I kill you first, Graham,” she said in a strained voice in between the gasps of air she pulled into her body.

“How would you do it?” My nose brushed hers while my heartbeat pounded so loudly in my ears it was hard to concentrate on anything else. I was losing control. My head had been just above the water for so long now I wasn’t able to think clearly. The closeness we shared made me want to sink to the bottom with her until we faced our watery deaths. I wanted to drown in her, not caring if either of us ever resurfaced again.

“I’ll make it slow.” Her lips grazed mine and my fingertips loosened slightly as my eyes closed.
