“Of course, you do. Why am I not surprised?” I roll my eyes.

“Don’t roll your eyes. It’s unladylike. What else do you need to do?”

“Go home to pack. I need to tell my dad I am moving out.” I look at him. He takes out his phone.

“Oliver, bring Ava’s phone. We are going to her apartment.” He ends the call.

“You are coming?” I ask, confused.

“I told you I was going to take care of your father. Any boyfriend I should know about?” Shit, I forgot all about Nathan already. What does that say about me?

“No. We broke up yesterday.”

“What was the reason?”

“None of your business.”

“You will be my business for the next year.” He pushes my chair closer to his. I stay quiet. “I’m waiting.”

“He cheated one too many times. I caught him yesterday for the last time.”

“Good to know. Oliver,” I turn to follow his gaze. “Ava is moving into the house. Ask Mary to ready the bedroom across from mine. I need my meeting with John to be rescheduled.”

“Do you need me to come?”

“No. I’m sending you a list of things to be done.”

“Ok.” Oliver hands me my phone. I smile in gratitude. He returns the smile and quickly leaves. I turn to see Viktor glaring.

“For the next year, I expect you to behave as my bride-to-be. You won’t be alone with any man or talk to them unless I’m present.”

“You sound like the jealous type.”

“I’m not. I demand respect. You are mine. I expect your behavior to reflect that.”

I shake my head. Viktor is not going to be a walk in the park. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. He demands without regard to anyone. How am I supposed to deal with that? This is going to be the longest year of my life.

Chapter Eleven

Viktor

She has no idea what she is signing up for. I probably should have given her time to think about my proposal. I’m not the easiest man. But I want her. Last night sealed the deal for me. Her inexperience turns me on. It fires my inner desires. I could have claimed her, marked her as mine but I want to take my time with her. She isn’t ready for me, but she will be. I see it in her eyes. She was born to be mine.

“We need to get going. Is your father home?” She looks at her phone.

“Probably. I can call and check.”

“Call.” She looks between the phone and me. Finally, she dials.

“Hi Dad. Yes, sorry forgot to call. Are you home? Ok. Do you work today? I need to speak with you. I should be there,” she looks at me. I mouth an hour, “in an hour. It’s important. Please wait. Ok Dad. Love you too.”

“Are you done with breakfast?” I ask.

“Yes.”

“You barely touched your food. You’ll have to change that. I need you healthy.” She doesn’t say anything. “Baby girl, I am talking to you.”

“Stop calling me that. I told you already. I’m twenty-three years old. I don’t appreciate it.”
