“What you want is irrelevant. Do as you are told.”

“I don’t have to do shit.” He lets go of one of my arms and takes a hold of my neck. It isn’t tight enough to hurt me. I see in his eyes how turned on he is. I can also feel it. Fuck.

“You do. I don’t have a problem bathing and changing you.”

“You wouldn’t.” He chuckles.

“Baby girl, you have no idea what I am capable of. One hour.”

He kisses me again before he lets me go. He gets out of bed with a smirk. I fucking hate him. He is everything I don’t want in a man. He is pure evil. I need to stay away from him. But can I? Am I able to stop myself from giving in? Viktor Manarch might just be my destruction.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Ava

It’s seven in the morning and I’m awake. I’m annoyed. I have nowhere to be. No use in arguing with Viktor when I’m bound to lose. I don’t know if this is worth a hundred thousand dollars. Would he really hurt my father or me if we don’t pay his money? There are moments I think this isn’t about money. Clearly, he has more money than one person could need. After an hour of useless staring at the ceiling, I get up and start my morning.

I dress comfortably. The house is quiet. I’m hoping he has gone to work. Whatever that is. In the kitchen I find Mary getting breakfast ready. She tells me Viktor left early and won’t be home for dinner. Like I care. This is the perfect opportunity to see how far I can push these boundaries he has set.

Upstairs with my phone, laptop, and bag, I set myself to go to the nearest library. At least I should take him up on his offer. It’s not a bad idea to take a course or two. Maybe some kind of trade certificate I could use when I go back to my life. I can probably do the research here but I don’t want to be in this house. I feel like the walls are closing in. I want to see people. The nearest library is about a thirty-minute walk. It’s a beautiful day to walk. Fresh air is what I need. Downstairs is quiet. I am almost at the door when a football player looking man appears out of nowhere.

“Good morning Ms. O’Brien. My name is Marco. Did you want to go out?”

“Yes,” I start walking to the door.

“Where can I take you?”

“Nowhere. I am taking myself.” I keep walking but he blocks the door. “Can you please step aside and let me out?”

“I am afraid I can’t. I have strict orders.” What is it with Viktor and his employees? It’s like they have a script.

“Good for you. But that has nothing to do with me.” I take another step but he doesn’t flinch.

“I’m here to drive you.”

“Fine. I’m going to the library.”

“It’s not on the approved list.”

“What the fuck?” I thought, wishful thinking on my part that Viktor was lying about the list. “I can go wherever I want.”

“That might be the case. But Mr. Manarch gave me a list. He's the only person who can authorize a place not on the list.” I have two choices, surrender or call him. I’ll be damned if I surrender to Viktor.

“I’ll call.” I say more to myself. I step away and take a deep breath. I’m not exactly sure what his mood is. It’s five rings before he answers.

“Good morning Ava.” I can be aggressive and demanding with him but I doubt it will get me anywhere, so I don’t.

“Good morning Viktor, do you have a minute?” I say in my most obedient voice.

“How can I help you?” His voice is very businesslike.

“I understand there is a list of approved places I can go. First, if you don’t mind sharing the list, I will appreciate it. Second, I would like to go to the library. It’s not far from your house.”

“I can text you the list. Why do you want to go to the library?” He is annoying. Why does he want to know everything?

“I am thinking of taking your offer on taking a course. I want to go to the library for research.”

“You can use my office. You have a brand-new laptop. I’m not sure what you are going to find there that you can’t find home.”
