“Do you know how many times I’ve heard that?It should have never happened.I’ve lost fucking count. We aren’t any safer here than outside this fucking house. I’ve been a prisoner for what? I’m not safe. Our children aren’t safe.”

“I’m making this right.”

“I’m tired of empty promises you can’t keep. I am leaving with our son. There is one thing Fiona was right about, Aisling is her daughter. I tried living here with you because you claimed I am safer here. After today I can see that is not the case. I’m leaving Viktor. I won’t stay here anymore.” She opens the door to her bedroom, and I follow.

“She might have given birth to Aisling, but she is not her mother. You are.” I can see Ava doesn’t want to hear it.

“This isn’t up for discussion. You can’t keep me here. Being beside you is going to get me killed. I'd rather take my chances elsewhere.”

“Absolutely not.”

“What are you going to do? Are you going to lock me up inside this fucking house?” She is standing in front of me defiantly.

“Whatever it takes,” I barely finish when her hand connects with my face. There is a rage inside of me.

"I am done believing and trusting anything that comes out of your mouth. Do you understand, like really understand, how life has been for me? My life has been pure chaos for two years now. I am not a fucking gangster. I am not a Manarch. Your fucking life is going to destroy whatever little is left of me." I take a step towards her.

"You are a Manarch in every sense of the word. We are a family. I will fix it."

“I am done letting you make me believe that you can do anything. Get the fuck out. I fucking hate you.” She screams. Her eyes are full of fire. I feel the heat of her anger. I am going to say something but don’t. Instead, I walk away. We need to cool off. Outside her door, Oliver is waiting.

“What the fuck now?”

“Let’s talk in your office.” He turns and walks to the stairs.

Chapter Forty Eight

Oliver

I was in the kitchen thinking you can’t make any of this shit up. I’ve always known Fiona is crazy, but I never imagined her being capable of trying to kill someone. It takes some serious balls to try. Shortly after we got to the house, I took Fiona downstairs. It wasn’t pleasant, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from her. I didn’t even bother questioning her. All she does is spill lies. Instead, I had one of the men take her anywhere but here. I told them if she didn’t give him an address, to take her to Cillian. Now I’m walking downstairs to have an uncomfortable conversation with Viktor. I open the door to his office and walk straight to the couch.

“What is so important that you dragged me in here?” He walks to his minibar.

“You have to let Ava go.”

“Are you giving me fucking orders now?”

“I’m stating facts, and the fact is if you don’t, you’ll lose her for good.”

“Again, who the fuck do you think you are?”

“Your brother. The one person who doesn’t want any harm to come to your family. She will disappear, and I’m not sure I will be able to find her a second time.”

“How about you stay out of my business.”

“I can’t and won’t. They are my family too. She doesn’t feel safe here. Give her what she wants within your control.” He pours a drink and drains it. Pours another and walks to the couch to sit opposite of me.

“I can’t do that.” He finally says.

“You can. You just don’t want to. Keeping her here is like keeping her prisoner. She loves you, but if you push her too far, you will lose her for good.” I see the wheels turning.

“How am I supposed to deal with her not being under this roof? She isn’t safe.”

“Find her an apartment and make it safe for her. Move her to your apartment in the city with the proper modifications. She won’t be the wiser. Anywhere but this house.” He looks at me, contemplating my plan.

“There is a leak somewhere,” he says.

“I know.” His change of subject means he has accepted Ava moving out. Now I need to get Ava to cooperate too. Not exactly an easy task.
