ChapterOne

Viktor

When I asked Ava to marry me, I hadn’t expected our wedding day would be six weeks later. But the moment has finally arrived. I would have preferred a ceremony at home where I could control everything, but she wanted something more ‘normal,’ and who am I to deny her?

After everything she’s been through, it’s the least I can do.

We decided to get married today because my father and Cillian are preoccupied with a shipment. It should guarantee us no surprises.

Ava and Aisling are already at the hotel. Ava wanted to get there as soon as she could. Something about needing time to get ready. I tried to remind her she’s already beautiful so she doesn’t need to fuss, but it’s what she wanted.

Oliver, Niko, and I are driving together. According to Ava, tradition dictates that women should be in one suite and men in the other. It doesn’t make a difference to me, but again, I want her to be happy on our wedding day.

“Are you nervous?” Oliver asks.

I shake my head to hide my smug grin. “No.”

“I’m happy for you both. I was beginning to wonder if the day would ever come. With you being an asshole, I thought she’d be smart and make a run for it,” he says wryly.

“Lucky for me, she doesn’t think like you,” I barter smugly.

We both laugh.

“Seriously, I’m happy you found happiness with each other. You’re a lucky man.”

“Indeed I am.” I stuff my hands into my suit pockets. “Now we just need to end this fucking war.”

“We will end it,” he replies confidently.

“Dadda,” Niko calls from the back seat.

I peer at him in the rearview mirror. He is growing so fast and is already eight months old. “What’s up, buddy?”

“Dadda.”

“We’re almost there.” Niko is ready to be out of his car seat.

“He’s your spitting image,” comments Oliver.

“I don’t know. To me, he looks like Ava.” I can’t help but smile.

Oliver laughs. “Hopefully that continues. She’s the pretty one.”

“Now you’re the asshole.”

We laugh as I pull into the hotel. After handing my keys to the valet, I get Niko out of the car and head to the elevator. Inside, Oliver presses the button for the thirty-fifth floor, which I’ve cleared for us. I wanted Ava and Aisling’s suite next to mine, but she objected. Not wanting to argue on our wedding day, I caved, but not before making the necessary arrangements to ensure their safety.

I won’t risk the safety of my family for anything—not even Ava’s desires.

When we reach our floor, I feel like a teenager. To get to my suite, I have to walk past Ava’s. Even though I promised I’d wait to see her at the ceremony, I can’t help myself. I have to see her now. Luckily for me, it’s time for Niko’s feed. Since he’s breastfed, Ava can’t send me away. It’s not my fault she didn’t leave me prepared to feed him.

I think she did it on purpose.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Manarch,” one of her guards greets me when I reach Ava’s door.

Two men are posted at Ava’s suite, but I’m annoyed that Marco isn’t one of them.

His main job is to protect Ava.
