Taking a seat, I pull out my cell and dial Oliver.

“What’s up?” he greets.

“I need you at the house tonight.”

“Everything okay?” There is concern in his voice.

“Yes. I’m giving Ava Nana’s wedding ring.”

I can’t stop my smile. It grows when Oliver replies, “It’s about time you made an honest woman of my sister.”

“Last time I checked, we’re already married. I’m also your brother, asshole.”

“True, but she’s the important one, not you.”

Since I can’t deny his comment, I say, “Come around six. Mom is setting something up.”

“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

When an unusual noise sounds through the speaker of my cell, I ask, “Where are you?”

“Docks. There’s a shipment coming. The Lebanese want to start doing business with us now that Cillian is dead.”

“I’m not sure how I feel about that.”

“I’ve got this. Focus on your family,” he assures.

“You’re right. But know that I’m here if you need me.”

Something in his tone changes when he replies, “I know. I have to go, though. Angus and I need to iron out some details.”

“Call if you need me, but make sure you’re on time.”

“I will be.”

A few hours later…

Everyone is sitting in the living room, chatting away. I’m nervous, which annoys me. We’re already married, and this is Ava, for fuck’s sake.

“Have you thought about having a traditional wedding?” Tina asks. It’s been a while since she was last over. My mother sent her overseas to travel after everything that happened. She only returned a few days ago.

“Not really. Viktor and I are already married.”

Ava faces me as Tina adds, “But every girl’s dream is to wear white and walk down the aisle.”

“I guess I’m not like all the other girls.” Ava winks at me.

“But if you could, would you?” Tina questions.

“Tina, leave the girl alone,” my mother remarks, knowing what I’m about to do.

“I’m just saying.” Tina holds her hands in the air in defeat.

“Maybe. If the timing is right.” Ava finally confesses.

This is my opening.
