“You’re mine,” I tell her as she is overcome for a second time.

“Just yours.”

ChapterForty-One

Viktor

It’s been a few days since Niko’s birthday party. Everything is finally going back to normal. Well, as normal as anything is in our lives. The Irish have finally calmed down. True to his word, Conor has been everything Cillian wasn’t. He hasn’t caused any issues yet, but it’s too early to tell. People are always on their best behavior at the beginning of any relationship.

I enter the restaurant. I’ve wanted to talk to my mother about something for a few weeks, but the timing always sucked for one reason or another. Now that her life is better, she’s been able to do more things for herself.

“Sweetheart, I didn’t know you were coming,” She greets me when I enter the kitchen.

“Hi, Mom. I was in the neighborhood.”

“This neighborhood is quite far out of your way,” she laughs. I hug her. “Tell me what’s on your mind.”

“Why must there be a reason for me to see you?”

“I am your mother. Now, what triggered your trip here?” She goes back to stirring whatever is in the pot.

“I was wondering if you still have Nana’s ring.”

She spins to face me. “I was wondering when you’d ask.” I give her a confused look. “Ava is the one. She deserves to wear Nana’s ring.”

“Perhaps you were right all along. I’ll never be me without her. She’s a wonderful mother and partner.”

“It’s in the safe at the house. If you have time this evening, I can bring it over to the penthouse. I wouldn’t mind seeing my beautiful grandchildren.”

“That would be great.”

“How are you going to give it to her?”

“That is the other thing I was hoping you’d help me with.”

Her mouth gapes open. “Is that so? What do you need from an old woman like me?”

“I want to ask her to marry me properly. She deserves more than a hospital wedding.”

“That is a wonderful idea.” Her smile is bright. “Are you going to hire someone to plan the wedding?”

“And get chewed out by you? No, thank you. I’ll leave the planning to you.”

She laughs. “Good answer. When will you ask her?”

“If you’re coming tonight, I might as well ask then.”

She moves the pot off the burner. “There’s nothing like tradition. I’ll put something together. Call Oliver to join us. It will be a family affair.”

“Sounds perfect. Now, what are you cooking? It smells delicious.”

“Porridge. I’ll make you a plate.”

“Thanks. I have to make some calls, so I’ll be out front.”

“I’ll bring it to you there.”

I exit the kitchen and find the nearest table. The place is filled with my men. Since my father’s death, you can feel the difference in the restaurant. It makes my mother happy. That is all that matters.
