“Hey.” Lisa waves her hand in front of my face, interrupting my thoughts.

“Sorry, what?”

Her smile is slick. “Where did you go? I was asking if you needed anything else.”

“No, I’m good. I just need to check on Niko. He’s going with Viktor and Oliver, so I was running through a list in my head to check that everything they might need is ready.” I am not sure why I lie.

“Are you sure?” Lisa asks suspiciously.

A part of me wants to be honest, but I don’t want to burden anyone. I have chosen this life. There’s no reason to involve anyone I care about who might get hurt.

“I’m sure. You girls, go ahead. Thanks for being here with me. I never thought I’d be so lucky to have two women who are like my sisters in my life.” I smile at them.

“Same here.” Tina winks.

“I agree,” Lisa adds.

“But are you sure you don’t want me to come with you?” Tina asks for what feels like the tenth time.

“You need to get ready. I’ll see you at the hotel. I love you both,” I tell them before giving them a hug.

“Me too,” they chirp together, making me smile.

After they leave, I scan the room, making sure I haven’t forgotten anything. I have packed my bag with everything I need, so I grab it and stride to the bedroom door. I am about to open it, but I don’t get the chance. Viktor opens it from the other side.

“Hello.” He pulls me into his arms, forcing me to drop my bag.

“Hello to you, too.” I moan when he kisses my neck, making the hairs stand on end. “Oh no, you don’t.”

I can’t help but giggle when his prickles scratch the sensitive skin on my neck. “What? I’m not doing anything.” There’s a smirk on his face that exposes his white lie.

“Tell that to someone who doesn’t know you.”

He laughs before letting me go. “I came to check if you need anything before you leave.”

“No, thank you.” I peer at his empty hands. “Do you have everything you need?”

“I sure do.” He winks playfully before waggling his brows.

“Always up to something.” With a giggle, I slap his chest. “I’m going to check on Niko, then head out with Aisling.”

“I wish you’d stay in the same room as me.” I can’t tell if it is protectiveness or need in his voice when he adds, “The suite is big enough for all of us.”

Smiling, I spin to face him. “I don’t want you to see the dress until I walk down the aisle. Give me at least this tradition.”

“I don’t care for traditions.” He grabs my bag, then guides me to Niko’s bedroom.

“You’ve made that very clear. But—”

“It is the only thing you’ve asked for,” he interrupts, tugging me close. “That line is getting old.”

“But it doesn’t make it untrue.”

Niko starts to babble the moment I open the door to his bedroom. My little man is growing up too fast.

I triple-check that everything is packed for him before saying goodbye. It takes Viktor practically kicking me out of the bedroom for me to leave.

After leaving Viktor, I head outside with Aisling to where two SUVs with half a dozen men are waiting. Even though I think it’s overkill, this is what Viktor needs to have peace of mind. Who am I to take that peace away? Besides, knowing no one can harm Aisling and me makes me feel safe.
