One hour earlier…
In my home office, I assess the reports of the latest attacks by Cillian and his men. He’s trying to outnumber me by taking out my men one by one. He has my father so rattled that he has pulled his men completely. The Manarch Clan is finally divided—just not in the way I’d hoped.
My father may have forgotten our oath, but I haven’t.
I solemnly swear to serve my Clan and never accept defeat. I’ll fight until my last breath and never leave a fallen brother behind. I’ll honor my brothers before me. I vow never to betray my Clan. I’ll protect and live by the Manarch Clan Code.
Ava went out this morning to work onsite at House of Beauty. She promised she’d only be gone for a few hours. She hates being away from the kids but refuses to take them out of the mansion.
I don’t blame her. With all the shit going on, it isn’t safe for them to be away from our home.
I check my watch, grimacing when I notice how much time has passed. We agreed that Ava would call me when she reached her office, but I’ve yet to hear from her.
My frustration grows when I dial her cell, and she doesn’t answer.
I send her a text.
Viktor:You’re late calling. Answer your cell.
A minute goes by, and she doesn’t reply.
I dial Oliver, but he doesn’t answer either.
With my teeth gnawing together, I try Ava again.
Still nothing.
Now annoyed beyond comprehension, I call Oliver, who blows me off again.
“Where the fuck are you, Ava?” I ask the empty room before dialing her again.
Still.
No.
Fucking.
Answer.
Desperate, I reach out to Marco.
“Where is Ava?” I bark out the instant he answers.
“Good morning, Mr. Manarch. She’s getting her coffee. I’m waiting for her outside.”
A vein in my temple almost bursts. “What the fuck, Marco? Go inside and get her! She isn’t answering her damn cell.”
“Yes, sir.”
