I’d be afraid if I were the people who had taken him. They are lucky she is knocked out. There was a rage in her eyes today that I had never seen before.

After tonight she will show the world no one crosses Ava Manarch and gets away with it.

ChapterNineteen

Ava

When I wake, I have a massive headache and a heap of confusion. I’m laying in bed. At first, I assume I’ve had a bad dream about Niko being missing, but then it hits me like a ton of bricks. Nikoismissing. Yet somehow, I’m in my bedroom where I shouldn’t be.

I almost died when I opened the door to Niko’s bedroom to find that he wasn’t there.

I have to find him.

I get out of bed and go to the bathroom. After washing my face, I try to figure out what happened. Like a bolt of lightning brightening the sky, I remember the glass of water Oliver and Viktor made me drink.

This is like when I first moved here.

They gave me a fucking sedative!

In moments like this, they usually force me to stay home. But I won’t have it this time.

I race downstairs and search for Angus.

Hopefully, he’s still here.

I’m grateful when I spot him as I reach the last step.

“Angus, where is everyone?” He doesn’t answer me, and it triples my anger. “So, help me God, Angus—”

“They went to Grace’s place to see if she’s there. She still isn’t answering her cell.”

My heart beats in an unusual pattern as I ask, “How long ago was that?”

“Almost two hours ago.”

“What the fuck?” I gasp to draw in much-needed air. “Where are Aisling and Brenda?”

“They’re in Aisling’s bedroom.”

I bolt up the stairs before all his reply leaves his mouth.

Instantly, I hear Aisling’s giggles. How did I miss that noise?

When I open Aisling’s bedroom door, Anita greets me with a smile. “You’re up.”

I stride over to Aisling, playing on the floor with Brenda. Bending, I pick her up. “Hi, sweetheart. How are you doing? Did you eat?”

“I fed and bathed her,” Anita advises.

“Momma.” Aisling smiles.

“I love you so much. I’m going to get your brother back,” I promise her before setting her down. “Anita, no one, and I meanno oneis to take Aisling anywhere. Wherever you go, she goes.”

“You don’t need to say it.” She pulls me in a hug. “You will find him.” After inching back, she asks, “Tell me what you need.”

“Just keep her safe. When she’s with you, I know I have nothing to worry about.”

Her eyes are wet with tears. “Okay.”
