“Wha-what’s that?” she asked, her mind tripping over the wordmarrying.

“Coffee. You answered my deal-breaker question correctly. What more do we need to work out?”

She shut her eyes, information and proclamations coming too fast for her to process. “Trick, what is going on?”

Wordlessly, he let go of her and dropped to his knees. Before she had a heart attack in the middle of the wedding reception, she realize he wasn’t proposing, but removing her shoes. He tossed them to one side and stood to applause from the crowd. They adored him—no surprise there. Barefoot, she stood a few inches shorter than him and felt a million times more comfortable.

“Now for a proposal unlike any other. I promise to love you and make a maximum of one plan per month.” He faked an eye twitch that made her laugh. “Ifyou promise to stop wearing shoes you hate and let me hang around with you on a permanent basis.”

“Permanent?”

“Maybe you can tack on my video services as a part of yours? Or if not, I could still join you at the weddings you plan as your date.”

“And if you’re not invited?” she teased.

“Hmm. I’ll find something to do. Do you know anyone who can teach me how to golf?”

“No,” she said with meaning. “Do you know anyone who can teach me how to take life as it unfolds instead of planning for every possible circumstance?”

He sucked air through his teeth. “I’m not sure you can be taught.”

Her mouth dropped open. “I can so! I’ve done everything you’ve asked me to since you showed up in town uninvited.”

“That’s true. You are a quick study.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him close. “Do you know what else I’m a quick study on?”

“What’s that?” He embraced her, pulling her flush against his body, and making her want to be alone with him as soon as possible.

“You. I have you down. You charm anyone and everyone you meet.”

“True.”

“You are able to solve any problem with a smile and a conversation.”

“Guilty,” he agreed.

“And you made me fall in love with you, even though I never planned on it.”

Whatever smart-aleck remark he’d reserved never made it out of his mouth. His eyes heated. He dropped his forehead onto hers. “You fell in love with me?”

“I’m afraid so.”

“Seems fair. I never saw you coming.” His eyes jerked to the side. “Except for the times when I went down on—”

She pressed her lips into his to keep him from finishing that sentence. Then she whispered, “Let’s talk about that later.”

“Let’s go back to your room and talk about itnow. Are you free, or are there any other unforeseen emergencies you have to circumvent?”

“I’m suddenly free. This great guy I know handled the last of my problems.”

“Well, he sounds like a keeper.”

She tilted her head and prepared for another toe-curling kiss. “He is. He really is.”

Epilogue

Rylee blew out a breath and steeled herself. She’d planned lots of weddings, but over the last year, none had been as significant as this one. She smoothed her dress with one hand and peered into the cathedral where the pews were packed with guests.
