Page 54 of The Symphony of Us

For the past week, I’ve been having trouble falling asleep. It’s probably the change of routine.I usually go to bed no later than eleven and meditate for an hour before that.Tired of fighting insomnia, I decide to spend my time in the dance studio instead. Before leaving the bedroom, I lean down, my lips tenderly grazing Greyson’s forehead.

He looks so peaceful.I don’t want to leave him, but I’m restless.

As I approach the dance studio, a shiver of anticipation runs along my spine, heightened by the moonlight cascading through the grand window. The room, devoid of life, appears eerie and enigmatic.

“Shouldn’t you be sleeping?”A soft voice startles me, resonating in the stillness of the house.

My heart leaps within my chest as I spin around, only to find Sanford emerging from the shadows, clad in a sleek black jacket and cargo pants that make him look dangerous.

“Hey, stranger,” I breathe, my voice a mere whisper, filled with a potent mixture of longing and trepidation.

With purposeful strides, Sanford closes the gap between us, his hands finding their place upon my waist, lifting me, and pulling me to him.

His lips find mine in a tender kiss that leaves me breathless. His arms tighten around me, igniting a wave of warmth that courses through every fiber of my being.I want to stay in his embrace forever.

“I miss you,” he murmurs against my hair.

“Miss you more,” I whisper, barely having enough breath when we part.“I didn’t hear you come in.”

A sly smirk dances upon his lips.“I’m trained to be stealthy,” he confesses, his voice dripping with amusement.“Why are you still awake?”

“Couldn’t sleep,” I confess.

“Bad dreams?”He caresses my cheek.

“Nope, I’m probably too wound up to be able to rest,” I confess, brushing a strand of hair away from my face.

“So you thought dancing could help?”he asks.

“Not really.I just didn’t want to be in bed anymore. It seemed like a good idea to come over here.”

“You could’ve woken Grey up,” he suggests with a small smile.

“He’s bone tired today.Fell asleep right after we showered,” I explain, feeling the warmth creep into my cheeks at the thought of us showering together.

His blue eyes brighten, almost glowing in the dark.“Like together?”

I release a throaty laugh.“Seriously, that got you excited?”

“Should I lie about it?”he teases with a raised eyebrow.

“Probably not.”

“So the embargo lifted for him.How about me?”

My heart skips a beat as adrenaline courses through my veins at his insinuation.“Take me to your room.”

He questions me with an arched brow, “Why not yours?”

“This is a conversation for two, not three,” I answer, looking up into his eyes full of desire.“Plus, I don’t want to wake up Grey.”

“Sounds sensible,” he murmurs, before scooping me into his arms and carrying me to his room.

He sets me down on the bed before gazing around his space with a pensive air.

“What are you thinking, San?”I inquire softly.

“The last time I returned from a mission, this place felt barren and dead,” he says and then looks at me, smiling.“When I entered, I could feel the change of energy. You guys brought life to it again.”
