His eyes soften as he looks at them and then back at me. “I just never want you to feel you’re not an equal part of this family.”

“I promise Zane, I’ve learned to accept that I’m worthy of being loved thanks to the two of you. We are a family. I love the three of you more than anything in the world and I know you love me back. I might even go as far as saying little Miss Hailey might even love me more.”

My gaze shifts to them and now Chloe is chasing Hails around the small patch of grass beside the back deck. Hailey’s got the hang of this walking thing and is gaining speed as she circles around.

“Oh, I wouldn’t doubt it,” Zane says, bringing my attention back to him. “She adores you Ave. It’s baffling to think she even has some parts of you in her. That fire I see inside of her when she’s fighting us during nap time, that’s all you babe.”

His observation makes me laugh even though it’s absurd to think, I have to agree with him. “She’s perfect. And will be spoiled for the rest of her life.”

“I can’t wait for the day she has someone to play with. Imagine two littles running around our yard. Hell, the house is big enough for an entire team.”

My heart warms as I hear him say he’d want another baby, eventually. I know Chloe’s always wanted at least four, two boys and two girls if she could choose. Being only children is part of what brought us two together. We both craved to have someone to share all our secrets with, to fight and spend hours talking about nothing. A forever best friend.

But I also know it’s been rough to adjust to raising a whole little human. “Ha, slow down there Zane. Give Chloe some time to adjust to having this little girl terrorize the house before you give her any more.”

“I wasn’t talking about her, Avery.”

My eyes widen as I turn and look at him. He’s smirking at me, knowing exactly what he’s done to me with that comment. His arms fall around my waist and he kisses me softly, rubbing his chin along my neck. The rough bristles of his hair rubbing against me make goosebumps appear all over me.

“What are you saying, Zane?” I murmur, so low I almost believe I’ve imagined saying it.

Zane looks over at Chloe who gives him a knowing wink. The two of them are up to something.

We watch as Chloe gathers Hailey into her arms and heads over to the house, disappearing into the family room behind the glass doors. Zane’s hands move up my back, pulling me in closer to him. I throw my arms around his neck and pull his mouth down to mine. He kisses me softly, and I immediately open up for him to deepen the kiss.

Pulling away I look straight into his eyes and find a wicked gleam full of mischievous thoughts and daunting promises.

Zane kisses my forehead before leaning back to meet my gaze. “Want to run upstairs and make a baby with me?”

A smirk teases my lips and I can’t believe he’s actually asking me this. How fucking crazy are we to even entertain the idea?

But that’s when it hits me. We are crazy. Crazy about each other, crazy in love.

My smile widens and I almost can’t believe what I’m about to say next. “I sure as hell wouldn’t mind trying.”

THE END.
