Before I could finish my sentence, someone growled lowly from behind us. I looked over my shoulder to see Thayer rushing out of the town center, too, with his brows furrowed in an angry stare and his canine teeth dripping with saliva.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
Thayer stormed past us, his fiery fingertips blazing against mine as he grabbed my hand and pulled me away from Calder. We walked down Durnbone’s main street, back toward the pack house, and Calder jogged up next to us.
“I had a nice visit with my mother,” Thayer said between gritted teeth. “Turns out thatsomeone’sex-boyfriend is in the running to become the next leader of the demons. And if that’s not fuckingsuspiciousto you, I don’t know what the fuck is.”
“Who? Jaroth?” I asked. “What do you mean by suspicious? He’s going to see if he can get any information out of my father this weekend.”
“We heard,” Thayer snapped, glaring at Calder. “We saw him last night.”
“Yeah, I know,” I said, taking a peek at Calder too. “But what does that have to do with him being suspicious?”
Calder and Thayer shared an intense look, and then Thayer looked away. To my surprise—and Thayer’s too, it seemed—Calder growled.
“We don’t trust him,” Calder said, scanning the woods. “None of us.”
“Just because he’s my ex?”
“No,” Thayer snapped, squeezing my hand tighter. “Because he knew what was happening to you and decided to do nothing about it. They all fucking did, and yet you were held captive by your father for four years.”
“He couldn’t do anything about it,” I reasoned. “He didn’t know what had been happening to me until after we stopped dating, until I caught him with another woman. After that … he found out throughothermeans.”
“Like what?”
“Like he tried to come to my home at four in the morning to win me back after he sleazed around in the incubi bars, fucking all types of women from all different species, and found me unable to move in the center of my bed.”
“But—”
“No buts,” I said, shaking my head. “He didn’t know.”
But it seemed like Thayer and Calder still didn’t believe me because they shared another silent look, their eyes glazing over, as if they were speaking through their mind link connection.
“Let’s go,” Thayer said, picking up his pace. “I don’t want to be out in the open any longer. We’re going home, and then tonight, we’re going out to the Halloween party, and that’s it. No-fucking-where else until this is all over.”
And I wasn’t going to complain about that.

Three hours after Sina,Thayer, and Calder came home from Durnbone, I knocked on Sina’s door. Thayer and Calder had gone out totalkabout how to protect Sina,to make battle plans, or do whatever the fuck they did whenever they left.
“Come in!” Sina called.
I opened the door and stepped into the room, making sure to shut it quietly behind me. Sina lay on the bed, dressed in a little tank top and shorts. While Calder and Thayer might’ve wanted to talk about protecting her, I wanted her to relax for once. She had been nothing but stressed the fuck out since she had left her father.
Tonight, I wanted her mind at ease.
“We don’t leave for the party for another couple of hours,” she said, sitting up and leaning against the headboard, her knees bent and feet flat on the bed. “You’re in here to dress me up already?”
After tossing a plastic bag on her bed, I smiled. “Maybe I’m a bit early.”
“So,” Sina said, smiling back and glancing down at the bag, “what am I wearing?”
It was filled with pieces of her costume. Her gaze flickered down to it, eyes widening slightly as she pressed her legs together. Ever since she had gotten back earlier with Calder and Thayer, her cunt had been salivating so much that I could smell it through the door.
