“I’m not sitting back and doing nothing,” Thayer growled, shoving me back. “You guys just want to keep hiding important shit from her, protect her, and shelter her. You act like she’s the most fragile fucking thing you’ve ever seen.”

“She is fragile right now,” Gaian said. “She’s slowly regaining horrific memories.”

“She just fucking killed a vampire!”

“She can be both fragile and strong,” I interjected, placing a hand on Thayer’s chest so he wouldn’t take his fucking anger out on me. “But if she loses control again and comes after you alone, Thay, she’s going to kill you. She almost did last night.”

“She won’t hurt us. We’re her mates,” Thayer reasoned, completely forgetting the fact that she had almost really killed him last night. If we hadn’t stepped in and tried to stop Sina, then she might’ve actually taken his life. “We protect her by aiding her, not holding her back. We train her to harness her power.”

“And how do you plan on doing that?” Gaian asked.

Thayer curled his lip into a smirk and glanced back at the two goons he had brought home. “I have a couple of dummies she could practice on. And if you don’t want any part in it, then fine. But you’re not going to stopmefrom watching Sina become one of the most powerful beings on this planet.”

I wokeup in Gaian’s bed alone.

After shuffling around in his closet, I pulled on an oversize hoodie that came down to my mid-thigh. Yawning, I walked out of his bedroom and through the quiet house to the stairs, where I smelled yummy waffles.

Darius stood in the kitchen with flour all over his tight black V-neck, drizzling waffle mix into the waffle maker. I hopped onto one of the stools at the island, rested my head in my hands, and watched him.

“How many do you want, Pretty Bird?” he asked, not turning around. “They’re for you.”

“Just for me?” I said, letting a small giggle escape my lips. “You’ve made about twenty.”

He threw me a grin over his shoulder. “And maybe for me too.”

My heart fluttered with excitement, my lips curling into a smile. While Darius and I had never really had a cute relationship, like I had with Gaian, or an intensewant to fuck you right nowthing, like I had with Thayer and Calder, I had been growing closer to him these past few days.

It made me feel really happy for once. Darius was easygoing and made me feel so safe.

Once he placed the last of the waffles on two plates, he sat next to me and poured a shit-ton of syrup over the brunch food. I furrowed my brows at his waffles, noticing the sheer amount of chocolate chips this man put into his waffles.

“You have the audacity to give me waffles without the chocolate?!” I asked playfully, stealing his forkful of chocolate chips and some waffle mix and shoving it into my mouth. “That’s more like it.”

Darius wrapped his arm around the back of my chair and pulled me closer, growling playfully back at me. “Your sleepy ass didn’t tell me she likes a pound of chocolate chips with her brunch.”

“Hey!” I said, giggling. “It’s not my fault. You could’ve asked.”

“And awaken the monster?” he joked.

While I knew that he hadn’t meant the monster that I had become last night—he was just making a silly little joke—I couldn’t help but feel all those emotions that I’d had before I crawled into bed with Gaian.

“Fuck,” he said immediately. “Sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.”

I pressed my lips together, forced a smile, and looked down at my waffles. “I know I’ve apologized already, but I’m—”

Before I could say another word, he shoved another forkful of waffles into my mouth. “You have nothing to be sorry about, Pretty Bird. We all fucking love you and would do anything for you. You’re not the monster you think you are. None of us thinks that, so get it out of that pretty head of yours.”

“It’s hard,” I whispered, swallowing the food. “But I’ll try.”

“You’d better.”

After cutting another piece of my waffles, I glanced around the empty house. “Where are the guys anyway? I would’ve thought that Thayer would be back by now. It’s been at least a few hours, hasn’t it?”
