“You sure you’re ready to be a family man? Shit like that is no longer acceptable when you cross over to the other side. Cori would have my ass for flirting like that.”

I chuckled and brushed a hand over my mouth, tugging at my beard. “There’s only one woman at the moment who can get anything from me other than a little innocent flirting and until she decides she no longer wants me, she doesn’t have to worry about any other woman out there.”

“Maybe you are ready then.”

We traveled down the hall stopping outside the massive office that faced us. It took up most of the space on this end. A show of power and status that had been purchased and not earned. I was cool with Malcom.

He’d funded my career over the years but make no mistake about it, he’d gained far more than he’d given. I was well aware of what I’d sacrificed and what I’d gained over the years. Another reason why this would be my last album and then I’d be walking.

“I’m following your lead. I hope you got this.”

“I do.”

He tossed his chin and knocked but stepped inside without waiting for acknowledgment.

“My guy. It’s good to see you, Sol. Come in, have a seat.” Malcom didn’t bother showing the respect of standing to greet me.

He leaned back in his chair, unlit cigar in hand, ankle propped on a knee. This nigga really liked to present that gangsta type shit. He was just as laughable as his son. The reason I was here in the first place.

I sat and Drew filled the seat beside me.

“Drew, good to see you too. Well considering the reason we’re here, maybe not so much but you get my point.”

I glanced at Drew who smiled in the business shark manner that meant he was ready to kill and destroy. “I do.”

“I’ll call in my son, so that we can get down to business,” he rattled off, balancing his cigar between pinched fingers.

“Before you do that, I want to speak withyou, privately.”

“Me? I was under the impression that you were here to settle this nonsense between you and Jr.”

Nonsense would correctly fit this situation.

“I am but there are a few things you need to know. Things I’m sure you weren’t aware of or maybe you were. Who knows. I’m only finding out the details over the past couple weeks and feel it’s very relevant to getting this thing between me and Sheets settled for good.”

His brows pinched and I could feel he didn’t like me calling the shots but he also had to be aware of the type of problems his son was often involved in. Malcom needed to at the very least entertain me until he knew what I wanted to say.

“I’m listening.”

“You’re aware that my mother was killed a few years ago.”

“I am.”

“Are you aware your son has been blackmailing my brother with threats of civil suits connected to families who lost loved ones as well as threatening to push for manslaughter charges against my brother?”

“I don’t see how that’s possible.”

“I didn’t either until Liq admitted that he felt responsible for the accident. Something happened in the car, right before the accident that made him feel as if he played a role. He confessed this to your son and he chose to use that against Kaliq. My brother who was a got damn kid, who had just lost our mother.”

“I still don’t understand how any of that is relevant to you assaulting Jr.”

“The reason why Kalia almost overdosed on fentanyl is because your son was passing it out here in the studio like candy. He used it to take advantage of certain artists signed to your label because that’s the type of shit he’s on.”

“But your brother is the one that provided them to Jr. Let’s not forget that. Which is why you’re the one who put the money up for the settlement for her family when they tried to suemylabel.”

I smirked and nodded, glancing at Drew. “Ay, Drew, whose name is on the settlement paperwork?”

“It’s been a minute but if I’m not mistaken, the settlement is with Privilege Records.”
