“Not me?” I smiled arrogantly as I stared at Malcom.

“No, not you. I made sure your name wasn’t listened anywhere on the paperwork. The only identifier on any of the paperwork is Privilege Records.” With each word we spoke Malcom’s expression hardened a little more.

He was fucking pissed. As always, Drew had looked out, making sure to protect me and Liq.

“But you put the money up.”

I nodded. “I did. My accountant made the transfer toyou. You were so hard pressed to keep her signed that you didn’t care how the situation was handled. As long as you could hand over the check as a show of your good faith that you cared about Kalia and her career, then nothing else mattered.”

That was where he’d fucked up but it worked in my favor.

I thanked the lord for having a shark in my corner.Drew. He was always thinking ahead. Money was one thing, the repercussions of my name being attached to an artist who almost overdosed was a far bigger issue. Drew made sure it would never happen.

“Okay, so what’s your point? It’s a private settlement. No one will ever know.”

Which I was counting on, but just in case, I wanted to make sure it wouldn’t fall back on me or Liq. Only Privilege Records.

I leaned back and removed my phone from my pocket and pulled up the video I’d been sitting on for a few days. Sheets wanted street cred.

Pretended he had it but his shit was fabricated. Mine was solid. After Liq told me how he ended up supplying Sheets I called in some favors.

As expected, he was too arrogant to let things go. I located the video and placed my phone on the desk in front of Malcom.

“What’s this?”

“Play it…”

Drew frowned, glancing at me as he shifted in his seat. This was the part he didn’t know about. The part I didn’t want his name attached to if things went left.

Malcom did as I asked and watched the video. He tossed the phone on his desk when it finished playing and I leaned forward and grabbed the device.

“So he bought some drugs. Big deal. Even if you try to do anything with that, it doesn’t prove anything. It’s my son’s word over that of a drug dealer.”

“Ifthat were the case then you’d be right but that wasn’t a drug dealer. That was an undercover.”

I could see the realization hit. Like I said, I had a past. I was connected to things I wasn’t proud of but my past was my past. Crew had cops on his payroll.

And for me, he would pull some strings to make sure Sheets was taught a lesson. I would owe him in the future, everything had a price. A favor for a favor. But I’d cross that bridge when I got to it.

“I make one phone call and there will be unis here at this office, your house, and his. Every vehicle you both own will be searched as well. I’d be willing to bet that they’ll find something worth talking about and even if they don’t, the news will have a field day with this story. You have a couple pretty big deals sitting on the table right now. The bad press might not work in your favor. No one wants to be attached to a dirty label no matter how much money you have to offer.”

“Are you threatening me?” he growled, leaning forward.

“Right now, I’m asking you to handle this shit with your son. If we can’t come to an agreement then I’m gonna do what I have to do same as you’ll do what you have to do to protect yourself.”

“You’re speaking like you’re not a part of this label.”

“One album, that’s all I have left and I own all my shit. If I walk right now….”

“You’ll owe me thirty million.”

“Which I’ll pay if it comes to that. I have the money, which I’m sure you know considering how much I’ve made you over the years. I will also tie your ass up in court and will not cut the check until a judge forces me.”

“You would risk not being able to produce music dealing with the legalities of a lawsuit?”

“What makes you think I can’t produce music?”

“You yourself just said you owe us one more album. Privilege owns your name and brand until all your contractual obligations are fulfilled. I will personally shut you down. You don’t want to play with me, Sol.”
