His full lips twitched. “Why you blushing? I’d rather you watch my performance than read that shit they post about me.”

“I told you I wouldn’t.”

“You can.” His burning eyes locked onto mine not giving anything but a willingness to be completely open with me.

“I don’t need their opinions of who you are. I have my own.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“Care to share?” A grin started at the corner of his lips while he waited.

“You’re good…” That damn smile expanded arrogantly until I added. “Onstage, I mean.”

He chuckled lightly, leaning into me until the warmth of his breath fanned across my neck and shoulder. “Just onstage?”

“Focus…”

“Oh I’m focused enough….”

My nipples puckered from the weight of what I knew he was focused on.

“Sol…” The feminine voice had me glancing past where he hovered over me. His eyes never left mine.

“Yeah…”

“They’re ready for you downstairs.”

“I guess it’s time for me to see if I can do better than good while I’m onstage tonight.” That cocky smirk returned just before his lips touched the curve of my jaw. He stood, extending a hand to me. I allowed him to pull me to my feet and adjusted my dress before he tucked me into his side.

“You have a table set up for her?”

Monae smiled, softly nodding. “We do. Right up front. If you prefer to stay up here, there will be a hologram of Sol’s performance centered over there.” Her eyes landed on me but he cut that short.

“Nah, she’ll watch from down there.”

“Whatever you prefer.” Her eyes bounced between us. “This way, please.”

With me glued to his side, Jaasir followed Monae as she led us to the VIP elevator. I was escorted to a table that was indeed right up front. So close that there would be no way for him to avoid my attention nor me his…

If he gave it.

At ten on the dot, the stage illuminated with hazy blue lighting, then the silhouette of the tall and powerful man who had just left my side.

His arrogance was just as potent as his build. Too bold to be contained but shit if that wasn’t exactly what I wanted. To keep him bottled up and tucked away for only me to enjoy.

The keyboard was the first sound to play a melody, smooth and rough. The drums were next and the chords from an electric guitar.

The lights shifted, sending the haze over the band while a lighter shade of blue brought more focus to the man of the hour. His eyes were low, placed on the floor, his hands cuffing the microphone that topped the stand he stood behind, feet planted shoulder width apart, reminding me of what lived between them.

This was too much. My stomach clenched and the air around me was charged with a heavy dose of him. I wasn’t sure if I would survive experiencing this so close, but if I failed, at least I’d go down in a blissful blaze of satisfaction.

The minute he opened his mouth and that soulful raspy voice took flight everything around me fell away. There was only him. My heart beat slowed to the lyrical rhyme of his words.

For the briefest moment I shut my eyes and felt his voice. Rich and raw causing a stir of need in the pit of my stomach. It traveled lower, causing me to cross one leg over the other. When my eyes peeled open, his were waiting. Focused, hooded, intense.

If she’ll let me…
