“Have you been here before?” Dylan asks, turning toward me.

“Yeah, it’s my best friend’s favorite bar,” I admit.

“Is it okay we’re here?” she checks, and I appreciate her concern for my discretion.

“Yes, but thank you for checking. Ellie should be uptown at her apartment working on her fashion midterm,” I explain.

“Gotcha.” She smiles and we take a seat at one of the tables near the bar. It’s a bar stool with a high top table which I have to make sure not to fall off of.

“What can I get you from the bar?” I go to stand up but Dylan stops me.

“I got it, what will you have?”

“Oh, uh, a tequila sunrise, please?”

“Okay.” She smiles and heads over to Cody to grab our drinks. They make small talk and they’re both laughing. That’s something I love about Cody, how personable he is. That’s partially the job but I think it’s also just him.

Dylan comes back to the table with our drinks and a huge smile on her face. “That bartender was so nice. I gave him an extra tip just because I liked talking to him.”

“That’s Cody, he actually owns the place. He’s great.”

“Here I was thinking I found some cool new bar. A friend of mine recommended it to me but I haven’t had the chance to check it out yet,” she explains.

“You should meet my friend Ellie, she loves finding hole in the wall bars that no one’s ever been to.” I laugh.

“Is she single?” Dylan jokes, but I don’t know why it causes my jaw to clench and my heart to stop. I know she is only joking but it is like a knife through my heart thinking about her with anyone else.

“No, I think she’s seeing someone,” I lie.

“Too bad. If she’s anything like you, I’d probably like her.” Dylan smiles.

Is she flirting with me? I mean I know that is allowed but I just wasn’t expecting it to come from someone like her. She is smart and beautiful and accomplished. I guess she is just lonely when it comes to meeting people.

“You look like you’re deep in thought about something, care to share?”

“I was just thinking about how beautiful you are,” I admit with a blush. I sip my drink, and Dylan smiles.

“Thank you, It’s been a long time since I’ve heard that.”

“Well, it’s true. I genuinely wasn’t expecting you, but I’m glad it was you tonight.”

“Me too,” she agrees.

We sip our drinks in silence and I wonder about how this feels like a date all of a sudden. That is until we say our goodbyes and a ping notifies me of a new deposit. I might never get to see Dylan again and the thought of that is saddening. What is it about this woman that has me so drawn in? I know better than to fall for a client, so I am happy in that sense that we won’t be meeting again. But part of me wonders if I’ll be lucky enough to run into her again.

Chapter6

Dylan

“You look chipper.” Lucy raises an eyebrow at me as she walks in my office to hand me an iced coffee.

“I had a nice night.” I shrug.

“A date?”

“Something like that,” I mumble. I don’t know if Lucy will understand. I hate lying to her, she is my all around best friend, but hiring an escort is one of those things that people can be quite judgmental about.

“Okay, I won’t press for details but I’m happy to see you so happy.” She smiles and leaves it at that.
