“Thanks.” I smile.

“Unrelated, but do you happen to know anyone who might be looking for a nannying job? I’m starting to realize I can’t do it all on my own and I think I need some help.” Lucy sighs.

“I don’t but I can keep it in mind if I think of anyone.”

“Thank you.” Lucy heads out of the office toward her own.

My mind automatically goes to Isabella, and I wonder if she likes kids. She doesn’t come across as the nannying type and it wouldn’t be as much money as she makes now as an escort, but maybe she’d consider it? I swear I don’t know much about this woman but I want to. She is more beautiful than I expected but it is the spark I felt when I met her. There was instant chemistry and I wonder if she felt it too. I’m sure she was just doing her job, so I try to push the thought of her out of my mind.

I go back to working on the contracts I’m supposed to be reading over. But the entire time I’m thinking about Isabella and her dark hair, wondering what it would feel like if I pulled it. And how her lips would feel pressed against mine. Fuck, what is it about this woman? I don’t go on a date in god knows how long and then the first one I fall for? No, it must just be that I haven’t been out in so long, I must miss the intimacy of dating more than I realized.

I think about how Harper asked me out last week. She isn’t my usual type but maybe I am just lonely and I need to be reminded of how dating can be. Maybe it is time to give her a chance.

“Reba? Can you call Harper in Illustrations? I need to speak with her.” I stand in the doorway of my office and Reba’s desk.

“Of course.” She makes the call and puts it through to my phone. I close the door behind me and take a deep breath. I have to put on my best flirty voice after I’ve already turned this woman down.

“Hey, Harper.”

“Hi, Dylan, what can I do for you?” she says eagerly.

“I was hoping you might want to go on a date with me tonight,” I say hopefully.

“A d-date?” She stutters, making sure she heard me correctly.

“Yes, I was thinking dinner and drinks?”

“That sounds great!” she exclaims after the initial shock wears off.

“Perfect, meet you outside at say six?”

“Okay!” I hang up first and I try to feel excited. This is what I wanted, to date again. Isabella awoke something in me and it must be that I’m ready for a relationship again. I go back to working and ignore the nagging feeling that I want to see Isabella again.

Thankfully I keepa change of clothes at work for just in case emergencies like this. So instead of my work attire, I am dressed in a black dress that hugs my body in all the right places and shows off my long legs. I didn’t have a change of heels, but my work heels are high enough anyway. I’m waiting outside the building when I spot Harper. She must have a change of clothes at work too because she is wearing a light green dress that goes to her knees and a pair of matching flats. She looks great, her light brunette hair is pulled back into a half up, half down hairstyle and you can see more of her face that way.

“Hey, you look beautiful.” Harper smiles as she reaches me.

“Thanks, so do you. The green suits you,” I compliment.

“Thank you! So where are we headed?” she asks.

“I thought we’d grab a drink first at this new bar nearby and then go get some dinner?”

“Sounds good to me,” She smiles hugely and I have to remind myself to smile. I am not normally with someone so optimistic but it is a pleasant change.

“So how was your day?” she asks on the walk to Puzzles.

“It was good, normal work day for me today. How about you?”

“It was good! I had a lot of illustrating to do since I’m working on the Murphy project, it’s a graphic novel so a lot different than the children’s books I’m usually working on. But she seems to like my style so I don’t mind the change, it’s just a LOT of work. Not that I’m complaining, it’s just a lot different.” She rambles on and I nod. I hadn’t realized how much she liked to talk.

“What’s the graphic novel about?” That is a different department from me so I’m not familiar with the project.

“I believe it’s supposed to be crime fighting lesbians. They haven’t added any words in yet, they’ve just been looking for my illustrations first,” she explains.

“Ah okay.” I nod. “Here we are.” We pull up to Puzzles and I hold open the door for her. I can be a gentlewoman when I want to be. This is a date after all.
