“Have they found out about Greyson and me before?” I question him.

“There have been rumors before about the two of you,” he adds.

“Exactly, and each one of them has been quashed,” I counter.

“Because I paid a lot of money for them to go away,” he bites back.

His confession hits me hard, I had no idea.

“What happens if Rosalie falls pregnant?” He looks between the two of us. “If you have this kind of relationship, how will you know which one of your children is the true heir.”

“Wehavebeen careful. We have spoken about it, and we all understand what’s at stake. Rosalie understands her duty is to produce an heir, my heir.”

My father shakes his head again. “I don’t understand how this will work.” He looks between us, obviously confused.

“You don’t need to understand. Please, accept that what we’re doing is what the three of us want,” I explain.

“And Rosalie? Is shereallyokay with this? Or is she saying yes because she was desperate for the money?”

“She’s been honest with us from the beginning, that she needed the money to save her sisters and that she wanted to help Greyson and me. She understands her duty and along the way, something changed and it bloomed into more.”

“Why can’t you have a normal relationship with a woman? Why do you need all this complication?”

“Greyson is not a complication,” I tell my father, who throws his hands up in the air, agitated with me.

“If I may say something, Your Highness,” Greyson speaks up.

My father nods in his direction to continue.

“I understand your concern,” he starts. “If it would make you feel more accepting of our relationship, then I will go to Lindburg.”

What?No. I won’t let Greyson do that.

“But I would like to come back for the wedding if that’s okay?”

The silence stretches across the room.

“You would be happy to go down there to work … to the Winter Palace?” my father asks him.

Greyson nods. “I’m happy to give Augustine and Rosalie the time they need together before the wedding. To grow as a couple.” Greyson looks over at me and gives me a reassuring smile.

No. I won’t let him do that.

“I don’t want you to go, Grey,” I tell him.

“I know, but your father is right. I think you and Rosalie need to have one-on-one time together, to build on the foundation you already have.”

I shake my head.

No.

I want to build a life for the three of us, and we can’t do that if one of us is missing.

“We want you, Greyson. You know that. Rosalie has told you so.”

He nods in agreement then turns to my father. “I can leave today, Your Highness.”

No. I don’t understand what’s happening.
