The queen sits forward, taking in all my words.

“There was something there between us,” I tell her honestly. “Of course, Augustine is one of the most handsome men I have ever met, but I never thought I had a chance or that I could possibly be good enough for him.”

“But then my son noticed you and Greyson were drawn to each other? And now you are here,” the queen speculates.

“Yes, I understand what my duty is to your family, your country, and your people. And I promise you I will do everything in my power to be the woman you want me to be.”

The queen nods at me proudly.

“I also want to make your son’s life perfect.”

The queen stands and opens her arms for me, so I stand and walk into her embrace. “I know your relationship is unconventional, but I can see why Auggie chose you.” She hugs me tightly. “A mother only wants the best for her child, and the path he is on. I was worried that he may never find true happiness. I can see you are the one to give that to him.” She squeezes me tighter. “I can never repay you for it.”

AUGUSTINE

There’s a light tap on my office door.

“Come in,” I call out.

The door opens, and Rosalie walks in looking like a vision dressed in a gorgeous pink dress that stops at her knees. Demure, yet she’s a knockout. She closes the door and saunters into my office.

“I see you survived the wedding talk.” I chuckle.

“Barely. We’ve just finished.” She grins.

“Wow. That’s a long day,” I say, looking down at my watch. It’s late in the afternoon, she’s been at this for hours.

“Yes. But I had fun. Your mother is wonderful.”

Okay, glowing praises about my mother? Have I walked into theTwilight Zone? My mother hasn’t liked any of the girls I’ve dated, and honestly, I’m surprised she and Rosalie have gotten along so well. I mean, I hoped they would, and I felt terrible this morning with how she was treated. It felt like I was sending her off to the wolves, but she’s come back glowing, and that makes me happy.

“You’ve let my mother takeover, haven’t you?”

Rosalie nods. “I gave a few suggestions, but I don’t really care what color the invitations are.” She giggles.

I’ve fallen for her a little bit more.

“Come here.” I tap my hand on my desk in front of me.

Rosalie walks around the wooden desk. I grab her hips and place her right in front of me. She kicks off her heels and places a foot on either side of my chair, opening her legs for me. Unfortunately, her dress hides my view. I can’t keep fucking this woman every moment I get with her, but my appetite for her is insatiable.

“Are you happy with what she has planned?” I ask her.

“Yes. I would have only vetoed something if it was ugly,” she tells me, which makes me chuckle. “Did you know your mother didn’t know that Greyson was sent away?”That surprises me.“She explained the king’s thought process, and I understand,” she explains.

I’m glad she does because I sure as hell don’t.

“I think maybe it will be good for all three of us. Greyson has time where he can think about whether this is the life he wants.”

She has my attention now.

“Because you and I are offering him a life of being our dirty little secret,” she explains.

Well, shit.She’s right.

It’s the same fear I’ve had since meeting Rosalie.
