“And you think you’re going to stop him?” Dante asks, looking at the three of us. “Oh shit, you did,” he says, then bursts out laughing.

“I wouldn’t be laughing if I was you, this so-called engagement won’t be going ahead because our father never signed the succession change before he died. Which means they must find a male heir to take over the crown,” I tell him.

The room falls silent. Guessing Daddy Valerius doesn’t know this or has told Dante this bit of information.

“What the hell does that mean?” he asks.

“Means Magnolia won’t be Queen. That Valerius won’t have access to the crown anymore,” I explain to him with a smile on my face.

He looks over at where Magnolia is sitting, and she nods in agreement with what I am saying.

“Fuck,” he says, running his hand through his hair. “And you think my father knows this or not?”

I shrug my shoulders. “Not our problem,” I say.

“You know you can’t win against my father, he’s a hundred steps ahead of you.”

“We aren’t going to roll over and take it like you do,” I spit back.

Dante’s eyes flare with anger at my outburst. “You’re dumb as well as naïve.”

I’m about to lay into him, but Skylar whispers for me to stop, her face pale with worry, and I give in to her plea.

“Why are you back, Dante?” Magnolia asks.

“Had no choice, you know that. You’re looking good though, Maggie, after all these years,” he says, dropping the asshole mask for a couple of seconds as he gives my sister a genuine compliment.

I turn and look over at my sister and the tiniest hint of a blush falls across her cheeks. No, Maggie, don’t fall for the hot bad boy, he’s our enemy, go back to hating him. Remember all the bullshit he put you through.

“I know,” my sister answers coolly, and I swear I’ve never been prouder.

Dante smirks at her comment. “Enzo is going to sweep the bedrooms to make sure there are no bugs or cameras in your rooms,” he explains.

A trickle of ice slides down my spine. Has Valerius been watching us in our bedrooms?Ew.I feel sick.

“Do you think your father has bugged us?” Maggie asks Dante.

He raises a brow in her direction, basically saying,He’s my dad, of course he has.

I’ve never felt so violated before.

“I’ll destroy them when we find them, don’t worry,” he tells her.

“Why?” I ask him.

“I have my reasons,” he says, his eyes never leaving Maggie’s, but my sister doesn’t say a word. Dante gives Enzo a head flick and his right-hand man disappears out of the library.

“I don’t trust them,” I whisper to Skylar.

“This whole thing makes me feel sick,” she says, and I nod in agreement.

“Maggie, can I talk to you in private?” Dante asks my sister.

“No,” she answers quickly, and the tiniest flicker of hurt falls across his face at her answer.

“We’ll be having this talk, Maggie. It’s cute that you think you have a choice in the matter. I’m home now, you can’t block me out anymore,” Dante warns her.

“Want to see me try?” Magnolia states, getting up off the chair and storming out of the room.
