“You wanting to start a war, boy? I suggest you listen to your boss and put the gun down. You touch the Prince of Friendsburg and all hell will rain down on you and your family,” Greyson growls angrily.

It’s kind of hot.

Dante turns and silently gestures at Enzo to put his gun away. Reluctantly, he does. Then Augustine does the same to Greyson and he follows suit.

“Way too much testosterone in this room,” Skylar mumbles.

“What happened to you?” the prince asks again.

“Disagreement with my fiancée it seems, has nothing to do with you,” Dante says angrily as he fixes his collar ignoring the blood pouring from his eyes.

“Actually, it does have to do with you,” Magnolia says to the prince as she stands up, sans her thrown shoe. “Rosalie says that you have invited us to stay with you at the palace. Which is awfully generous of you to offer that. We graciously accept,” she says, giving the prince a warm smile before dropping it when she looks over at Dante.

Dante’s face is bright red with anger, fuming that Magnolia has gone against his wishes, and I silently give my sister a high five.

“That’s great,” the prince says, looking around the room and trying to ignore the tension between everyone.

“No, it’s not. I won’t allow it. You’re my fiancée. You will not be staying at another man’s home,” Dante declares angrily, his dark eyes narrowing on my sister. He knows Maggie; she doesn’t take kindly to people telling her what to do. He’s already bearing one scar tonight from trying to control her; does he want her to throw the other shoe?

“I see no ring on my finger. You’re my fiancé in name only,” Magnolia states, flicking her black hair over her creamy shoulder, dismissing Dante.

“What you’re saying is if you had a ring on your finger, you wouldn’t go to his palace?” Dante questions her.

Magnolia shrugs. “Yes, we would be truly engaged, and I guess I would be staying with my fiancé, wouldn’t I?”

His dark eyes twinkle as if he knows a secret she doesn’t know, and I have a feeling that was the exact answer Dante was hoping for, and my sister has walked right into a trap.

Dante pulls out a long, silver chain from inside his shirt and removes it from his neck before handing it over to Magnolia.

She snatches it from his hand and glares at him. Her mouth falls open as she stares at the ring that is looped on the chain.

Skylar and I look over at each other confused.

“You kept it,” Magnolia whispers, looking up at Dante. Her face has paled and her eyes glisten with unshed tears. I feel like we are intruding on a private moment between them.

“Of course, I did,” Dante says softly, a frown forming on his face.

“And you’ve been wearing it, this entire time?” Magnolia asks quietly. Dante nods his head.

We all watch in silence as Magnolia runs her finger over the ring and a single tear falls down her cheek.

Dante’s face softens a fraction before his hardened mask slides back on.

“Looks like you’re moving in with me and Enzo, sweetheart, till the castle is fixed.” Dante grins.

“Wait, what?” Magnolia stutters as the realization of what’s happened dawns on her.

“No, you can’t do that,” Skylar argues.

“You promised, Maggie. You said if I had a ring, you would come home with me. That’s our original engagement ring.”

“She clearly doesn’t want to go with you,” the prince states, moving toward Dante.

“Stay out of this. This is between my fiancée and I,” Dante warns him.

Greyson shuffles forward to protect Augustine and Enzo does the same with Dante.

Maggie looks around the escalating situation and her shoulders sag as if the fight inside her has left.
