“Prince Augustine says there is enough space in the palace for us to stay while repairs are taken out on the castle,” I explain to my sisters, ignoring Dante’s outburst.

Magnolia frowns. “We don’t have any money for repairs.”

“He said he would help, maybe we can use some of the engagement money?” I suggest.

“We need that to wipe out Dad’s debts,” Magnolia says, chewing her lip anxiously.

“My father will pay for it,” Dante adds from across the room.

“Hell no,” Magnolia says, raising her voice.

“You’re not going to have any choice in the matter. He’s already organizing it,” Dante tells us.

“He can’t do that,” I yell at him.

“He can and he has.” Dante shrugs.

“Are you really that thick. Do you have any idea the hold he is going to have over my sisters and I now?” Magnolia argues with him.

“Of course I do, but he’s my father and what he wants he gets. He doesn’t give a shit about what you want,” Dante argues back.

“You’re a piece of shit,” Magnolia curses as she picks up her high heel and hurls it across the room.

I hadn’t noticed she had taken her shoes off earlier when I came in.

Dante wasn’t expecting it and it nicks his eyebrow, blood begins to drip down his face.

The entire room stills and falls silent.

Shit. What the hell has gotten into my sister.

“What the fuck, Maggie,” Dante curses.

Suddenly, Enzo is pulling a gun from his pocket and aiming it at Magnolia. We all scream and freeze in our places.

“Enzo, pull back!” Dante screams at his friend.

Enzo does as he’s told and puts the gun away.

Clutching at my heart, I swear I’ve aged ten years from that altercation. We may have grown up with them as naive boys, but they are hardened criminals now.

“Maggie, you can’t do that shit,” Enzo yells at my sister.

“She wouldn’t have to if you guys weren’t such assholes!” Skylar screams.

“We heard screaming. What the hell is going on?” Greyson rushes into the glasshouse with his gun drawn.

Enzo pulls his gun again and has it aimed at Greyson.

Fuck.

This is not at all how I wanted the night to go, a bloodbath in our glasshouse and a new war waged between the Carandini family and the country of Friendsburg.

“What the fuck happened to you?” the prince asks Dante before looking around the room to find me. His eyes soften when he sees I’m unhurt.

“At ease, Enzo,” Dante tells his right-hand man.

“Tell him that,” Enzo hisses, glaring at Greyson.
