“You think Valerius has bugged our father’s grave?” Skylar chuckles, but Magnolia looks deadly serious.

Would he? Skylar and I look at each other with concern. Magnolia grabs her phone, turns some music on, and places it on our father’s headstone.

“Valerius being dead isn’t going to solve our problems. Dante will fill the void his father left behind,” she tells us.

“Difference is, you will be by his side,” I add.

“You think I would be able to control Dante Carandini?” Magnolia asks, placing a hand on her hip as she laughs at that statement.

“I think you’re forgetting how beautiful you are, Maggie. Dante was in love with you all those years ago when you were kids. Whatever happened between the two of you broke his heart too. You could see it. I’m sure that person is still inside him somewhere, you’d just have to find it,” Skylar explains to her.

“That boy was smothered by the man he became, Skylar,” Magnolia adds.

“You see the thing is, Maggie, you have these things called breasts and a vagina. They are magical when it comes to the opposite sex, they seem to be able to control the uncontrollable without lifting a finger,” Skylar teases.

“You need to stop watching those old Hollywood movies, this is the real world, Sky. My tits and ass are not going to sway the likes of Dante Carandini, that man probably has women on tap. This …” Maggie waves her hands in front of her, “… is not going to turn the head of a man like him.”

“You’re beautiful, Maggie. Men should be dropping at your feet not the other way around,” I add, hating that my sister can’t see how truly beautiful she is.

“Dropping at the feet of virgins? Pretty sure men want a pornstar in the sheets, not inexperienced women like us,” Skylar scoffs.

Speak for yourself.I know my way around the sheets. But maybe she’s right. I always assumed Magnolia and Dante had gone further than kissing, but maybe they never did. A man like Dante probably has women around him constantly; he’s played the field, and that is welcomed because that’s what men do, whereas the three of us need to stay locked up in the tower and be kept away from anyone that could lure our virginity from us with lustful thoughts. Because we can’t have impure princesses for their husbands.

“I’m not a virgin,” I confess, and Magnolia and Skylar turn to me, their eyes are wide, jaws open in surprise.

“What in the hell?” Magnolia curses at me.

“You’re not a virgin?” Skylar screeches.

“Would you calm down?” I try to rein in my sisters.

Magnolia simply shakes her head, and Skylar stares at me as if I’ve grown a second head.

“I don’t understand. Who with?” Skylar asks as she eventually regains her composure enough to be able to string some words together.

“There have been a few.”

“Rose. There’s been more than one?” Magnolia squeals.

“Hey, you willnotshame me.” Pointing my fingers at my sisters, I give them both a scowl.

“No shaming here.” Skylar holds up her hands. “I’m jealous. I can’t believe you didn’t tell us.”

“I think your reaction today proves why,” I bite back.

“Oh my god, Rose. Whichever prince you are paired with is going to be expecting a virgin on their wedding day, and now you’re telling me you lost that years ago,” Magnolia says, throwing her hands up in the air.

“As if my future husband is expecting a virgin, Maggie, come on,” I tell her, shaking my head. Stupid archaic laws.

“Then maybe you should be marrying Dante, you seem to have the experience,” Maggie bites back.

“Maybe I should.”

Magnolia’s eyes narrow on me, and something flares the tiniest bit beneath those ice-blue eyes. Is that jealousy?

“I don’t believe you haven’t slept with Dante,” I spit out.

Magnolia ignores my question as her eyes narrow on me, again.
